| Victor's father died when he was 4 years old He grew up with half brothers and sisters and step brothers and sisters in the home of Jesse Young Wallace. He and his sister were born in a house on the corner of West Academy and Market streets, where later W. W. Searcy built. It is about 3 doors down from the post office across from the Baptist Church. The family moved to the Wallace Farm when his mother remarried about two years after his fathers death. Victor married Gertrude when she was but seventeen and sometime later the family moved to Dallas. The marriage ended in divorce and Victor lost his fortune in the oil business. Gertrude remarried and ended her own life in Dallas in 1924. Victor remarried in his later years lived for awhile in LaGrange and returned to Brenham where he died on his 71st birthday. He is buried in Prairie Lea Cemetery with other members of his family.2 |
