Edited Ladd Genealogy Chat from March 23, 1999 Part One of Three _** BONES95 just joined "Ladd Genealogy" (2 members now) ** .Bones> hi janet..did I miss the group? .Janet> Nope, you're the first to make it. .Bones> I have some fun news to share .Janet> WHAT WHAT? .Bones> well.. I found me some family.. and they are still alive! .Janet> Really!? Where? Who? .Bones> it is a branch of my family that has been missing since about 1929 .Janet> How exciting! .Bones> my grandfather's brother moved his family to New York in 1929..left on a bad note .Bones> had a disagreement with his sister and there was very little communication between him and the family until 1963 .Janet> How did you find them .Bones> my dad remembered that one of his sons had moved to Florida.. he found the names of his children so I did a search in Infomap .Bones> found all three names in the same city so on a hunch wrote them all letters..got a response on Sunday to find that they are indeed my cousins .Janet> Did all three respond? .Bones> no just one.. but he was responding for them all. I am leaving Thursday for Florida on vacation and part of my vacation will be spent meeting them .Janet> That's really neat! .Bones> they were totally dumbfounded that I even found them They knew they had family in Minnesota but didn't have any names .Janet> Isn't it just amazing how you can find people now! .Bones> they are just as excited as I am. I know..I am literally flying..such a wonderful discovery! .Bones> I have sooo much to share with them I can hardly wait! .Janet> It's a good thing one of you had names. Gives 'ya goosebumps huh? .Bones> yes it is a good thing my dad has such a good memory. When I told him I had found them and also found out that at least two out of the five sons Ben had are still alive he was thrilled. Oh .Bones> I had sent them some photos I had of their grandfather when he was young that they had never seen before .Janet> It's nice that you can share with them. .Bones> yes..it will be fun showing them what I have. I made up a book for them with photos and some of the histories I have. It is going to be a real experience .Janet> Yes, it will be quite something. My husband's grandfather was married once before and the family of his first wife found us. We sent them pictures and information and never heard from them again. .Janet> Might be too painful for some of them. They were told untrue stories about the grandfather. .Janet> So, there are cousins your age and your dad's age? .Bones> that is the sad part to some of this I know. But I was so determined to find them..the reason for the arguement was so silly to leave such a gap in time. Ben's son Earl is 10yrs younger than my .Bones> dad.. his son's are 32 & 27 .Bones> I am 13yrs older than the oldest grandson.. .Bones> like I said to my dad..from a genealogy perspective it is such a discovery..from a family perspective it is like coming home! .Janet> Yes, and after this much time, lots of people put the past behind them. .Bones> it took me about 6 months to find them, but it will be worth the time spent. Yes they do. I do know that Ben did reconcile with his sister shortly before her death..but very little communication .Bones> with the rest of the family .Bones> my father has never met three of his sons .Bones> and it seems the one he did know is one of them that is still living .Janet> Did you say if your father will go to Florida with you? .Bones> well.. I am glad I could share my find with at least someone from the group..lol. No he won't be going on this trip as he will be on his way back from Arizona .Janet> Maybe it will be better for you to break the ice. .Bones> While he was in Arizona this past winter tho he too found another of his cousins from the Ladd group that had moved to Phoenix..hadn't seen her in over 30yrs .Bones> He told me to be sure and take lots of pictures for him..which I plan to do .Janet> Good idea on the pictures for sure. Are the family you found online? .Bones> unfortunately no.. the email I received was actually from Jerry Ladd's wife..she has email at work..so she contacted me that way. .Bones> we are meeting in West Palm Beach on Monday afternoon.. do kind of a picnic thing and just get to know everybody. .Janet> Another good idea! Low-keyed, casual. One of the cousins on one of my husband's line just went online. We've corresponded for years! I was able to scan her some pictures. And the difference in .Janet> how long something takes to get from here to there! Incredible. .Janet> Are any of your family particularly interested in genealogy or will you be the expert? .Bones> I did sent them photos of myself and the boys so they can recognize us..am very anxious to see what they look like. Will be fun. My dad has told me many times I look very .Bones> much like is aunt Angie..which is a compliment..she was beautiful.. :-) .Bones> I seem to be the expert in the family and have been called the gatekeeper of our history..lol .Bones> I have several of my first cousins that have started to get involved in the research and it has really been fun getting to know them again..we are pretty spread out these days .Janet> That has it's pluses and minuses. A daughter of my cousin recently wrote me for "everything" I had on the family. Her dad told her I was the family historian. .Janet> +/- on the being the expert part. Getting to know cousins is always fun. .Bones> I am also now in contact with my Great Grandmother Lillian Cummings Ladd's side of the family now. Am going to their family reunion this summer. Oh I have had that too, but I don't do the copies .Bones> for free .Bones> I hate to charge anything..but copies of photos can be expensive. But I take them over to Kinkos and use their color copier..makes fabulous copies of the pics .Bones> you see.. I was the only grandchild my grandmother would trust with some of the family treasures and pictures..she told me she knew I would keep them safe and not throw them away. .Bones> She is the one who gave me the original news articles I shared on Charles K. Ladd .Janet> Isn't that funny--and she was right! .Bones> She knew me well..I spent alot of time with her..she was one of my most favorite people in my life .Bones> she was all pioneer in her spirit..country to the core and a strong woman to boot! .Janet> You were lucky to be able to spend so much time with your grandmother. .Bones> My grandmother gave me a huge box of pictures and such shortly before she died. About two weeks after she died her daughter went into the house and moved everything out never .Bones> to be seen again .Bones> she just found out that I have the family photos and asked that i return them to the family.. I told her that is what I am doing. I have been sending small books with pictures to anyone who .Bones> asks..just as my grandmother had asked me to do. .Bones> When she gave me the box she told me that one day my cousins would come to me asking about our heritage..and she is right. They are coming in droves now..lol .Janet> OH. I wish people would give to those who want things, instead of getting rid of it. I guess they just don't think it's worth anything. Good for you! Don't give away the originals! .Bones> oh lord no. They are in a safe place. I only give out copies _** BLYKINS just joined "Ladd Genealogy" (3 members now) ** .Janet> Hi Blykins. Are you a Ladd Family researcher? BLYKINS> Hi,yes mine is Judith Ladd & John Green .Bones> Hi Blykins.. .Janet> I know you...hmm... BLYKINS> Hi Bones .Janet> Bobby! Of course. BLYKINS> Yes Bobby Sr .Janet> Did you get my email about Helene Green? Do you know her? .Bones> have to step away for a second guys.. be right back.. :-) .Janet> OK BLYKINS> I didn"t know Helen The only one i know is John .Janet> She was one of the first to introduce me to the multiple Noble Ladd problem. It's too far back for me so I'm waiting until the rest of the Ladd researchers figure it all out. .Janet> Your web site is nice! BLYKINS> that is my sons website .Janet> So, who have I been emailing? You or your son? .Bones> am back .Janet> And, your son's website is nice! .Janet> Bonnie, we're getting the Bobby's straight here. BLYKINS> yes thats my son .Janet> Oh, Okay. Are you both interested in the family research then? BLYKINS> yes i mess with it a little .Janet> I'm in California. Where are you? BLYKINS> Arkansas .Bones> and I am in Minnesota.. BLYKINS> i'am from Indiana BLYKINS> Randolph Co .Janet> Where in Arkansas? That's where my Ladds are from and then Indiana before that. .Janet> You answered my question. My Ladds in Yell County. .Janet> Still cold there Bonnie? BLYKINS> A place called Malvern Hotspring Co .Bones> Janet.. whereabouts in California? One of the brothers to my great great grandfather went to California shortly after his son died in 1862..he died there..Hazen Ladd .Bones> no..not really..was 50 degrees today..almost a heat wave.. .Janet> Haven't heard of Malvern Hotspring Co. but I don't know Arkansas very well. Made it to 60 in Calif. today! I'm close to Sacramento. .Janet> Bobby, is it Bobby Jr. who is trying to find out more about Judith Ladd's ancestors? BLYKINS> that was me BLYKINS> he is tied up with the Lykins family we now 66000 + .Janet> Sorry to be so confused. Judith's ancestors are well documented I believe. BLYKINS> yes i read the Warren report .Bones> k..I just took a peek.. Hazen died in 1863 in San Fransico..which line in Judith from> .Bones> do you have the website address? Would love to take a look.. BLYKINS> her father was Joseph the Noble .Bones> interesting.. is she your oldest ancestor traced then? .Janet> Bonnie, my Ladd line didn't come to California until 1920's. Glad you could join us.. :-)) ROBERTR6> I need the name of a ship my family came over from Scotland in 1750. Any Ideas? .Janet> Donald, Bobby Sr. is researching Judith Ladd and John Green. Robert is a descendant of Daniel Ladd. And Bonnie you know! .Janet> Robert, have you checked the online Ship sites? ROBERTR6> No .Bones> oohh.. I found a neat website that is starting to publish ship lists..http://istg.rootsweb.com/ ROBERTR6> Do, they have passenger listings? .Donald> Yes saw Roberts query on the list BLYKINS> Hi Robert6 .Janet> Believe it or not, there were lots of ships going back and forth. Some sites do have passenger lists... .Bones> yes.. they are publishing from all over the world..starting in about the 1630's ROBERTR6> brb .Janet> The sites I've found are in my favorites folder. ROBERTR6> Tks Janet .Bones> yes that is the right address yes istg .Donald> seems funny that no one has located the ship that John of Virginia came over in .Donald> Daniel came in the Mary & John..../ .Donald> Joseph of RI came in the Hurcules .Janet> Bobby, what can we do to help you with your Judith Ladd? ROBERTR6> If he came from Scotland at the time of the "Clearings" 1745 - 1750 they were shipped out like cattle and lists were hard to find BLYKINS> i think the Warren book says most of it .Bones> there are some lists on this site that are really long.. you might get lucky .Janet> Be careful with the Warren book though, he's made mistakes. Especially when you get to the Noble Ladds. .Janet> Bobby, Robert, are you both familiar with the Ladd Digging Grounds? ROBERTR6> No BLYKINS> i have went as far as Joseph Ladd Judith father ROBERTR6> I'm new at this BLYKINS> yes i have seen it it is real nice .Janet> Misty's Ladd Digging Ground is where many of us start in our Ladd research. I think I emailed him a little information and looked at the web site. .Donald> Bob you are of the Virginia branch and Robert was of the New England branch? .Janet> Robert was descended from Daniel. BLYKINS> what i have it says they came from NC to Wayne Co Ind in 1814 .Janet> My Constantine Ladd was born in Terre Haute, Indiana in 1812. HE may be the son of another Joseph Ladd from Virginia. .Donald> Bob have you placed a generation chart on the Ladd Digging Ground? DIGITEYESR> She was born about 1860 and lived to be 99. Died in Portland, Oregon .Janet> Rosie, Good, we were hoping people could keep track of it easier that way. .rosbai> there... it's written down in plain veiw, now I hope to not forget! LOL .Donald> now what time did you put next to it Rosie? .rosbai> 7 p.m. my time .Janet> Dig, was she born in Iowa in 1860? DIGITEYESR> Yes, She and Uncle George lived at or near Battle Creek, Iowa and moved to Portland .rosbai> Donald, did I ever get the information to you about my grandmother's sister that died in infancy? DIGITEYESR> about the time wwII started. .Donald> I have got to cross reference the spouses so that I can look them up easier .Donald> no Rosie DIGITEYESR> Forgive my Typo, I meant 1880 .Janet> Amy born 1880? .Janet> Was she born in time to be listed on the 1880 soundex? .rosbai> Elias W. Ladd and Tena Myers had a daughter, Donna that died from encephalitus when she was 18 months old. That is all I know so far. _** TANDY1 just joined "Ladd Genealogy" (5 members now) ** DIGITEYESR> I think so. Amy's brother was Horace Ladd and he lived with them in Portland .rosbai> Hi Tandy TANDY1> Hello .Donald> no death date? TANDY1> What's been happening. Find any new relatives? .rosbai> are you researching the LADD family? .Janet> Hello Tandy. .rosbai> maybe you are one, at least to me? TANDY1> Some. I find a little here and there especially here. .Janet> Dig, did you find Amy on the 1880 soundex? That would give you her parent's names. DIGITEYESR> No I haven't, good idea, I will do that. TANDY1> I might be. You have any Perkins ancestors? .Janet> Have you used the soundex before? .rosbai> Donald, are you reasearching any of the Myers or Shanks? DIGITEYESR> No but I think my wife might know how. .rosbai> Perkins, doesn't ring any bells here .Donald> No Rosie! I had just been concentrating on the LADD surname DIGITEYESR> I have done most of my research on the net. .Janet> Dig, Do you go to a Family History Center? They'll know how and will help you. It's a great tool when you're not sure of the county. You'll find others of the same name too. If Amy is not listed, look for an older sibling of hers that might be. .rosbai> so does that mean that you're not sure about that name or no that you have none? TANDY1> Don, you have anything that needs to be looked up in Stokes County? I might go there in a few weeks to the courthouse.. .Donald> Janet, DIG, I was told by a lady at the LDS FHC that the soundex listed only families with children 10 and under... Part Three of Three DIGITEYESR> Yes we have a good Family History Center here in Independence, MO .Janet> Yes, Donald, that's true. But if Amy was born in 1880, she or a sibling should be listed. It lists the whole family, but only families with children under 10. .Donald> I had used the 1880 Ohio soundex for information...she said I most likely missed some families that way .Janet> Dig, don't have any Spann's or Gore's in your line do you? .Janet> Donald, Dig, once you get an idea of what counties they might be in from the Soundex, go back to the census and check those counties for others, older without children under 10. DIGITEYESR> No Janet but I notice a lot of Gore's on the Tri-County site of Joyce Tice .Janet> Tandy, look for a Joel Goode marrying a Ladd sometime 1780-1810 I think. .Janet> Dig, do you have a URL for that? DIGITEYESR> I am one of her volunteer Typists .Donald> Oh Thanks Tandy didn't meant to ignore you...just have to take the answers as they come .Janet> My husband's family had a printer who had a newspaper in about 1865-1870 in Independence. Got in trouble somehow and supposedly put in jail for a while. TANDY1> All right. I wrote that down. I'll see what I can find .Donald> I don't need any NC stuff right now but as soon as you get back I will have found many questions for you .Janet> Great Tandy. There's a Ladd researcher trying to figure out the parentage of his Hulda Ladd Goode b. 1802-3 in Kentucky. But the Goode's were in Stokes in 1790. DIGITEYESR> Yes, Let me see if I can find it now, BRB .Janet> OK Dig .rosbai> here are my surnames LADD ELLYSON YOUNG MEDLEY MYERS TANDY1> This might be a good chance to find some more Woodson's they having Goode descendants and all. .Donald> Rosie you left out some the wives surnames .Janet> here are my surnames LADD FOSS DOCKTER KIRSCHENMANN NEWELL SPANN GADDIS CROSBY .rosbai> no, those are it, well forgot one RILLEY .Janet> Tandy, sorry I don't have Goode's or Woodson's that I know of . .rosbai> at least what I have here in front of me LOL .Donald> That takes you through the Amos Line then? TANDY1> But luckily I do and what a family! .Donald> is the MYERS the same line that John MYERS clovrboy is? DIGITEYESR> URL is www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/jmt/index.htm .rosbai> before,Amos married Sarah Young, his father was Ellison who mrd. Milly (Emilia) Rilley he was son of Thomas Ladd and Mary Ellyson TANDY1> Well. I'm going to head off. They are calling for me. TANDY1> - signed off - .Janet> Thanks Dig...do you have a first name? .rosbai> yes, its a shoot off of the same tree, we would be cousins. DIGITEYESR> This site covers the PA counties of Bradford and Tioga and also Chemung County in NY .Donald> Rosie, you'll have to prove that to me... .Donald> is that the same Thomas that married Ann ELLYSON?\ .rosbai> prove what? Donald DIGITEYESR> One of the best Gen. sites going if you have people from there! .Donald> Thomas & Mary...Mary is a new one on me DIGITEYESR> My name is Bruce Preston currently living in Independence .rosbai> well I guess, that's the info that i got from cloverboy .Donald> Ann was d/o Thomas ELLYSON and niece to Judith and Ursulah .Janet> Bruce, thanks, I don't have people from PA, but the Gore's are listed there? From Missour? .Donald> Thomas was brother to Robert Gerrard ELLYSON .rosbai> it says that Thomas died 1787 mrd. mary Ellyson and they had 4 children, Elizabeth, Robert, Stanford Hubert, and Ellison .Donald> others think that Jacob, brother to Thomas LADD was the parent of Ellison DIGITEYESR> Yes there are quite a few Gore's in Bradford County, especially in Burlinton Township .rosbai> well there is a ? behind his, Thomas, name so this info could very well be wrong DIGITEYESR> Don't know about Missouri, as I have no relations around here except my own children! .rosbai> so if that is the case, then who was Ellisons' father and mother? .Janet> Bruce, I'll take a look! Thanks! .Donald> John gave me the name Sanford Hubert ...then where does James of Bourbon Co. come in? .Donald> they say Jacob LADD and silvia TANNER Joseph s/o Wm & Ursulah DIGITEYESR> Ok, Thanks for talking to me. I think I will head for the pillow as I get up at 5 to go to work .Donald> last should read Jacob also .rosbai> from what I have, Stanford Hubert Ladd mrd Hattie Elizabeth Issac in Bouran County, Kentucky. He was the son of Thomas .Janet> Thanks for joining us! Remember, 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 4:00 PST. Bye for now. DIGITEYESR> Bye all and if anyone needs any info from my area just E-mail at Digiteyesr@aol.com .Janet> OK, later then. :-) .rosbai> bye Dig .Donald> Rosie, I wonder where this information on Thomas came from as the Warren LADD book has no further information that=n the marriage of Thomas and Ann ELLYSON DIGITEYESR> Bye all DIGITEYESR> - signed off - .Janet> OK you two carry on while I eat dinner...:-) .rosbai> as I stated before, it's what clovrboy sent me. I don't know if he got it from Tom diltz or where it came from, guess it needs to be researched a bit further! .rosbai> i know that there was some info missing as to my great grandfathers' siblings .rosbai> so I guess if I'm not totally confused by now, I'll never be, right? LOL .Donald> Rosie, have you talked [written] to either Sharon or Barbara, or Doratha? .rosbai> Donald, chatted .rosbai> sorry about that!!!! .Donald> that too .Donald> both sent me a "stack" of info that I am still pouring over .Donald> I just received Dorotha GRAY's address in Chillicothi Ind .rosbai> Donald, no haven't chatted with anyone on this subject for such a very long time .Donald> I haven't written to her yet .Donald> Have talked to Barbara several times on the phone .rosbai> did you ever give my address to Arnold J. Ladd of California, MO? .rosbai> Olen Ladd would be my gUncle because he was Elias's brother, right? .Donald> I haven't been able to raise him by the phone # he gave me and I can't locate him through the on-line whitepages...unless he now has another unlisted # I don't know what happened to him. He never answered my letter. He is not on line .rosbai> okay, well I'll try and drop him a note thru the snail mail .Donald> He listed his son's names in his letter but never said where they lived .rosbai> actually, Olen would be my great great Uncle .Donald> He lived in the state of California so that may be where his sons live now .rosbai> did he mention who his father was? .rosbai> that would help in placing him on the tree .Donald> Rosie, you great grandfathers brother would be your great grand uncle not great great uncle .rosbai> why is it called that? How would it be several times over? .Donald> there is no great uncles they are grand uncles and great grand uncles etc .rosbai> these may seem like silly questions to you, but I am still trying to learn all of this! LOL :) .Donald> just like grand parents .rosbai> okay, think I've got it now! .Donald> not silly even the best people say great uncle .rosbai> so did Arnold say who his father was? could it be Archie or Artie? .Donald> it was the lazy way of saying great grand aunt or uncle...drop the grand .Donald> yes I am lookin that up now .rosbai> I'm trying to figure it out like a jigsaw puzzle .rosbai> that's how I've always know it to be, so I guess that was a booboo passed down thru the generations! :) .Donald> OH dear I didn't make a file on him so wait a bit .Donald> John C & Julia MEDLEY; John Leo, Arnold .rosbai> so you know for sure that Uncle Olen is alive? I can remember grandma talking about him coming to Florida inthe winter and visiting with her.
