Ladd Genealogy Chat, January 19th, 19:06:03 in three parts. Part 1 of 3 DLLADD, DENISEDREW, Janet .Janet> Misty seems to be off line still. DENISEDREW> I was hoping to fill in my many blanks on the English side .Janet> I'm still working on the American side. _** TANDY1 just joined "Ladd Genealogy" (4 members now) ** .Janet> Hi Tandy. DLLADD> Hi Tandy TANDY1> Oh. hello TANDY1> The last time I was here was the last week in November. DENISEDREW> well, how are you all doing on your research?? .Janet> So Tandy, did you get lots of research done since November? .Janet> I have straightened out a couple of Arkansas lines. DENISEDREW> Tandy, whom are you researching att he moment? TANDY1> No. Picked up just a little here and there. I found out I got ancestors called Shelton, Tilley, France. DLLADD> I sent on the request from Misty from Nancy Fischer on the LADD/SHATTUCK line to my friend in Cottage Grove OR and she sent me results DENISEDREW> Did any one go to Ancestry.com this month?? .Janet> Well, that's more than you had Tandy. I've been corresponding with Ann Potts, the daughter of Victor Price and Amanda Ladd. .Janet> I did Denise. But I haven't had time to get back there and I'm running out of free time. TANDY1> Not really anyone, Denise, right now. I've been mostly studying and researching Abraham and all the fathers of us .Janet> I found a lot of references to Joseph Ladd but wasn't sure what to do with the list. My sister said to contact the submitter to Ancestry. DENISEDREW> do you have any information on a Thomas Pince, NH? .Janet> Tandy, are you starting there and collecting all his descendants!? :-) .Janet> No Denise. DLLADD> did he marry a LADD? TANDY1> No. I'm just studying the Bible. Reading through it with commentaries and such DENISEDREW> don't know have a reference saying he had a daughter Thankful Delano .Janet> Tandy, good for you. TANDY1> I found something unusual a couple of weeks ago. My 3rd great grandmothers name is Elizabeth Maria (Shelton) Smith. They had a daughter who was named Elizabeth Maria Smith, Jr. .Janet> Really, did women do that? TANDY1> I found another daughter named Sarah other than her. And I knew of my grandmother all ready. .Janet> Denise, none of those names are familiar to me. TANDY1> I guess they do. My cuz has seen it about 5 or 6 times. This is my first .Janet> I've never run into a lady Jr. DLLADD> most time the daughter was referred to by a nickname rather than by Jr. TANDY1> Like Betsy would have been a name for her. DLLADD> but in records they may have used that term rather than ( I ) or ( II ) .Janet> Lots of nicknames for Elizabeth. DLLADD> my Aunt Elizabeth used Betty most of her life .Janet> Others are Bess, Bessie, Beth, Eliza, Libby, Lisa, Liza, Liz _** SISTER2 just joined "Ladd Genealogy" (5 members now) ** .Janet> Hi Charles! TANDY1> Hello Charles> Hi all. .Janet> Hey, how do you guys list those generations on the mailing list? Do you just type it in? DENISEDREW> we all have a txt file saved for just that purpose DLLADD> Janet I usually type up stuff in WORD then when satisfied...copy and paste into the E-mail then make additional corrections so that it doesn't wrap on it self if can be helped .Janet> I've got a lot of info in some family group sheets, I just hate retyping it all. .Charles> I do it like Don. .Charles> Janet why would you have to retype all your family group sheets. DENISEDREW> Hello Charles, do you have anything to share on the English side of the ocean?? DLLADD> it make it so much easier, doesn't it Charles? Then when done can either file it or whatever... .Charles> All I have on the English Ladds is what was in the Thomas Miffin Ladd book. .Janet> Charles, I have all my information in PAF. To get it into Word, I think I have to retype it. DENISEDREW> could you not just save as to txt?? .Janet> :-) I'll have to do a little more experimenting with PAF to see if it will. If I want to export info, it just gives me gedcom choices. .Charles> Does you progam make reports Janet,. DENISEDREW> thats true, but does it not give you an option to create books, ancestor lists etc?? .Janet> Charles, that's an idea. I'll check that. I might even have to read the manual! _** BONES95 just joined "Ladd Genealogy" (6 members now) ** .Janet> Hi Bonnie! DENISEDREW> that does produce reports for you. DLLADD> My friend in Cottage Grove Oregon mailed me some copies of the Ruth Kline-Ladd book DLLADD> not he whole book just some of the pages .Janet> Charles, I sent you info on John A. Ladd. I think he was the son of Milton Ladd. .Charles> I need to go back and study the Ruth Ladd book. Somewhere I got the idea that she messed up and got on the wrong line. .Charles> That is good I don't think that I have anything on Him. .Janet> I think you have him as a son of John, the son of Miles Ladd, but that John died in 1899 along with a lot of other Ladds. I think there was a typhoid fever epidemic. .Bones> Janet..which line is this John & Miles Ladd from? Are they of the Virginia line? .Janet> They are of the Joseph Ladd line. He was supposed to be born in Virginia. .Bones> k..thanks. Don't know alot about that line. .Janet> I think it's just me and Charles! Arkansas Ladds! .Charles> Miles Ladd on the 1880 census said that his father was b. in VA. .Janet> And so did my Constantine. .Markmaples> - signed off - .Charles> I wonder if they were right because it don't work the way that I look at it. I figure that he was b. in NC. .Janet> I answered a query on the Yell County, Arkansas site and got a lot of information from an Ann Potts. North Carolina and Virginia looks like such a mess early on. I .Janet> don't think they knew where they were some of the time. .Janet> Or they were in Virginia when it was Virginia and then it ended up being North CArolina later, or visa versa. DLLADD> Charles, didnt' the early costal states extend west into present states like Arkansas ? .Janet> Did you see that I got an answer to the land graduation question from the GLO? They were fast--next day service! Sure beats the snail mail. .Bones> has a connection ever been made between the three lines of Ladd's? DLLADD> four, Bonnie .Bones> oops.. .Charles> The information that I have is that the Ladds in England were of the same family prior to 1500. DLLADD> Joseph of RI is supposed to be brother of Daniel of MA .Bones> ok...that is new info for me..was wondering if there was a brother connection somewhere in there .Charles> Don what is your source. New to me too. DLLADD> This was a chart starting with LADDE prior to 1400 or about hat time DLLADD> his son John 1440 DLLADD> John LADD of 1440 had three sons: .Bones> Donald what county in England did they come from? I am showing Devonshire, Ipswich or Wiltshire DLLADD> oops of 1470 .Charles> They came from Kent county. DLLADD> County Kent .Charles> They drive on the wrong side of the road. .Bones> Kent.. ok, but now I show Daniel Ladd as being born in Wiltshire..is that what you show? DLLADD> Charles over there the word Count comes first .Charles> Thats what I said they drive on the wrong side of the road. .Charles> They talk funny too. DLLADD> I have a book "Lest We Forget" by John C. LADD .Janet> Larry sent me some great information on the Highland South of Arkansas. Another name for Hillbillies. .Charles> What did John C. want us not to forget. DLLADD> He said Daniel b. 1613 on farm near Deal .Bones> and that would be in Kent. Elizabeth Ladd the d/o Noble. .Janet> That could be helpful. .Charles> yes he has already helped and I was able to help him. .Bones> that's quite a story Donald.. thanks. Had not heard any of that before. I had come across a chart that listed a Nathaniel Ladd as the father to Daniel. DLLADD> Warren book say John of NJ and John of VA may have been only ones closely related? bothe where Quakers? .Janet> That's always nice, Charles. A little here a little there gets filled in. .Bones> Nathaniel, according to this chart, was born in 1595 in England, Died 1650, possibly in Mass. .Bones> now I am wondering who this Nathaniel might be on this chart DLLADD> Bonnie...the sad thing about my story is after John C. finished his book he destroyed his notes.... .Bones> that is sad. Nothing to back up what he has written..bummer. DLLADD> he may have had more in them than he actually put in the book DLLADD> Bonnie, I also have a son listed for Daniel named Joseph....do you? .Bones> let me take a quick peek DLLADD> b. abt 1639 .Bones> yes.. born in 1639 in Ipswich, MA, died in Portsmouth, NH. That is all I have tho DLLADD> all the other children have a marriage record and actual birthdates but not Joseph .Bones> that is all I have found too DLLADD> He might have left home at an early age and that is why DLLADD> not in Haverhill Vital Records .Bones> could very well be the story. DLLADD> Joseph of RI not in records before 1642 a deed record then DLLADD> Joseph, bro of Daniel did not sail with Daniel on the Mary & John .Bones> I have come across a few things that also states that Nathaniel was in Rhode Island at some point also. Was listed as one of the co-founders of Providence, RI along with Roger Williams DLLADD> but stayed whith the chattle { goods, animals etc, and followed on the Hercules a few days later .Bones> interesting stuff! DLLADD> John has a very precise book following from Daniel down to him and his children DLLADD> They live in Salem Oregon .Bones> is this book still to be found? I have the Warren Ladd book right now..and also a little blue book of the Roger Williams line which is direct down to my father DLLADD> most of [all] of the LADDs that I have talked to out here seem to be of the NE stock DLLADD> One might be of the VA stock she was asking me about an Amos DLLADD> didn't seem to be Amos in the NE line .Bones> yes..a part of my line migrated also to California in the 1860's - 1870's DLLADD> my straight line back born lived and died in Ohio DLLADD> cept for Ellison DLLADD> grand uncles...their children scattered to the winds .Janet> where in California Bonnie?
