Ladd, Charlene Waner, Ann Arbor, MI
Age 68, born October 19, 1929, passed away on March 22, 1998 at
Heartland Health Care Center in Ann Arbor. Surviving her, and at her
bedside when she died were her husband of 25 years, John F. Ladd; sons,
Roger (Carol) Engholm of Missouri and Rudy Engholm of Maine;
daughters, Jan Engholm (Nabil) Sousou and Judy Engholm McAllister of
Ann Arbor; and her mother, Mrs. Merle M. Waner of Amarillo, Texas.
Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren, Christian and Jason Engholm
and Alex and Leila Sousous, and great-granddaughter, Kassondra. Her
first husband, Duane Engholm currently resides in Osaka, Japan. Mrs.
Ladd was born in Fort Worth, Texas and grew up in the northern Texas
area. She graduated from Wheaton Academy and attended Wheaton
College in Chicago. She and her family spent 11 years as a missionary in
Japan, after which she moved to Ann Arbor in 1966. Subsequently, she
was employed at the Lutheran Retirement Center (Glacier Hills) And
Vivienne Farms before becoming Executive Director of the Ann Arbor
Cablecasting Commission. Her interests and activities included involvement
in Zonta International and a term as board president of the Ann Arbor Golf
and Outing Club. Charlene will be remembered as a woman of great spirit
and courage. She further blossomed in retirement years as she explored
her lively sense of adventure, creativity, writing talents and working on
completing a degree in Criminal Justice from Washtenaw Community
College. She touched all who encountered her and will be missed
immensely. Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be
held Wednesday, March 25, 1998 at 3 p.m. at MUEHLIG FUNERAL
HOME in Ann Arbor with family friend Rev. Chuck Johnson moderating.
The family will receive visitors immediately upon conclusion of the
memorial service. Memorial tributes may be made in Charlene Ladd's
name to Arbor Hospice, who was so instrumental in assuring peace,
comfort and dignity in her last days.
