     Litchfield - Leon Cook, 77 of 1025 Cook Road, Litchfield, died Monday
afternoon (July 9, 1984) in Foote Hospital, Jackson, following a short
illness.  He had lived on the family homestead on Cook Road for over 70 years.
     He was born in Homer Feb. 20, 1907, the son of James O. and Mattie
Heath COOK.  He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1925 and completed
a dairy herdsman course at Michiagan Agricultural College (now M.S.J.).
After graduation, he served one year as herdsman for the Arbogast Dairy in
Union City, and then served in the same capacity for the Hayes Dairy Farm
in Clark Lake, and then delivered milk for five years.  In 1935, he
returned to the family farm and started the Continental Livestock Company
which was in operation until 1957.  He retired from farming in 1970.
     He was a director of rthe Litchfield Telephone Company for many years
and served on the Litchfield Board of Education.  He was a member of the
Dairyland Farm Bureau and was a member of the Litchfield united Methodist
Church where he was active in the Men's Club.
     On Dec. 11, 1928, he married Zella LADD.  She survives, as dsoes one
daughter, Mrs. Donald (Mary Lee) SMITH of Whitmore Lake; two sons, Charles
of Petoskey, and James of Litchfield; 10 grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.  One brother preceded him in death.
     The funeral service is at 11 am Thursday in the Litchfield united
Methodist Church.  The 
Rev. Paul Hartman will officiate, and burial will be in the Mount Hope
Cemetery, Litchfield.
     Friends may call at the George White Funeral Home, Litchfield, after
10 am Wednesday, and the family will receive friends there Wednesday
evening from 7 to 9.

NOTE:  Leon COOK passed away on July 9, 1984.
