Edith R. (Leach) Ladd, 1906 1997 (Obituary from an unidentified and undated newspaper)
RUMFORD - Edith R. Ladd, 90, of South Andover for many years, died Sunday, Feb. 9, [1997] at the Rumford Community Home. She was formerly of Holbrook, Mass.
Born at Middleboro, Mass., Sept. 12, 1906, the daughter of Arthur and Leah Whitehead Leach, she graduated from Sumner High School at Holbrook, Mass. in 1924 and attended Brockton Business College at Brockton, Mass. and the School of Practical Arts, Boston, Mass.
Mrs. Ladd was head librarian of the Holbrook Public Library, Holbrook, Mass., retiring when she moved to Maine to live in the home built by her husband, Alfred D. Ladd. Before her years as a librarian, she worked with her father in his bronze memorials studio at Boston, Mass.
After her father's death in 1930, she was a bookkeeper for the Smith & Heald Painters and Decorators of Boston, Mass, for many years. Then she was in the office of Charles H. Thorner of Quincy, Mass. She was then appointed librarian of the Holbrook Public Library, Holbrook, Mass., having the requirements for the position, being a certified professional librarian.
Mrs. Ladd was a member of several library organizations and to the Massachusetts Archaeological Society for many years. She was a member of the Calvary Congregational Church of South Andover.
She was married at Middleboro, Mass. on Feb. 22, 1958 to Alfred D. Ladd who died at South Andover on Jan. 26, 1988.
There are no close survivors and she was predeceased by a brother, Robert S. Leach who died March 2, 1973.
