F.M. Ladd Died Jan. 13 

Heart Attack Fatal to Well Known Cobb Resident
Mr F.M. Ladd, who died Saturday morning, January 13, 1940 leaves four
stalwart sons to carry on his name besides a numerous company of relatives.
The sons are Driscoll Ladd, of Julien; Marion Ladd, of Gracey; Royce Ladd,
of Marion and Ray Ladd, of Texas. There are two lovely daughters, Mrs Cullen
Jackson, of Gracey; and Mrs "Sonnie" Thomas, of Gracey vicinity. This is
retrospect to this sturdy old family. It was good to see so many of them
rally around these stricken sons and daughters, and the grandchildren in
their time of grief. Despite the inclemency of the weather the church was
crowded to the doors, to do honor to this good citizen's passing and so
sympathize with his children. They had special need, it was of even more
grief to them, than the death of their father, who was freed from pain was
their saintly mother who lay in a hospital bed, not able to be with her family
to pay the last rites to a beloved companion and helpmate -- alone in her
desperate sorrow.
For Mrs Ladd, who has been a sufferer for years became suddenly worse, and
was carried to Hopkinsville, this on Sunday before Mr Ladd's death on Saturday.
A pathetic feature was that they were both sick, Mr Ladd had lain down beside
his wife and was so lying when she was stricken. He had a heart attack soon
after the ambulance took Mrs Ladd away. And so Cerulean mourns with this
mean's stricken family, for a good citizen, whose life was spent in the environs
of Cerulean, though at

the time of his death he and his wife were living in Cobb, Ky. As we looked
at the throng who had come through the bitter wind and cold to honor this
man and his family there was the thought of Lincoln's famous saying -- Surely
God must have loved the great common people. He made so many of them. For
Mr Ladd would have told you he was one of them, that great mass

of humanity that makes the bone and sinew of our land, liberty-loving, law
abiding, God-fearing citizens, Good husbands, good fathers, true men. This
describes our neighbor who has gone to rest. He too, was a member of Cerulean
Methodist Church and Pastor Vance with constricted throat and suffused eyes
gave broken words of comfort to the family and friends as one of them he
said, a mourner for a yet closer tie, he told them.
After the funeral services, the remains were taken to the Lander grave yard,
near Gracey for interment. The pall bearers were the sons and sons in law.
A large crowd from cerulean went on with the funeral party. We would not
close this brief tribute without a special word of condolence to the good
mother, whom we have known these many years. But no word of ours is needed
to remind her of Him, who has promised to be the comforter of the widow and
the fatherless. She has lived in the light of the Lord all the days of her
life. It is she who will comfort the children who, even in her serious illness,
will take up her cross and theirs -- with that unfaltering trust that is
her most outstanding Christian Virtue, and her children will rise up and
