     Frontier - Francis Leon GRATZ, 83, of ll060 Clark Road, Hillsdale,
died Sunday (Nov. 3, 1991) in St. Vincent's Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio.
     Born in VanWert, Ohio, Jan. 25, 1908, the son of Emil and Ethel URTON
GRATZ, he was a lifelong area resident.
     A 1925 graduate of Hillsdale High School, lhe retired in 1975 as a
custodian at the Jonesville School.
     Jan. 24, 1934, he married the former Esther LADD, and she survives.
     Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Arlene) Calvin,
Reading, and Mrs. Leonard (Evelyn) BLACK, Frontier;  three sons, Dale and
Terry, both of Frontier, and Merle of Elizabethtown, KY; tow sisters, Mrs.
Homer (Lucile) JOHNSON, Hudson, Ind., and Dorothy Blair, Hillsdale; three
brothers, Ralph of Camden, Raymond of Hillsdale, and Burr of Great Falls,
Mont.; 18 grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren.
     Preceding him in death were two brothers, one sister, one grandson and
one great-grandson.
     The funeral service is at 1 pm, Tuesday, at the St. John-White Funeral
Home, Reading, with the Rev. Dale Jaquette officiating.  Burial will be in
the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Litchfield.  Friends may call from 9 am Tuesday
until time of service at the funeral home.
