Kristen L. Ladd
BRIDGEWATER -- Kristen Leigh Ladd, 18, died in a motor vehicle accident on Friday, Nov. 15, 1996, in Bridgewater. She was the daughter of Scott and Debra Ladd of Rochester.
Ms. Ladd was a freshman in the athletic training program at Bridgewater State College. In addition, she was employed by Minerva's of Wareham and Lerner's of Kingston.
Miss Ladd won the Rochester Town Christmas Essay contest when she was 13. She played softball on the town team and junior varsity as well as varsity softball for the Old Rochester Regional High School. She volunteered in the guidance office at the school for a number of years.
Miss Ladd was an ORR ice hockey cheerleader for four years, making captain of the squad in her senior year. She was an avid cake decorator.
Miss Ladd was awarded the Massachusetts Foreign Language Association Award of Excellence in Spanish. In addition, she was inducted into the Junior National Honor Society in 7th Grade and the National Honor Society as a junior in high school. Miss Ladd was one of three students honored by the Annie Maxim House Association, and recipient of a scholarship award. In addition, she was named to the "Who's Who in High School Students," an honor given to the top 5 percent academically nationwide.
Miss Ladd is survived by her father and mother; a sister, Abbie Ladd of Rochester; a brother, Brandon Ladd of Fall River; her paternal grandparents, James and Kathryn Ladd of East Wareham; her maternal grandparents, County Commissioner Walter Cockerham of Greensboro, N.C., and Lillian Cardoza of East Wareham; her great-grandparents, Manuel Tavares of Falmouth and Ella Gonet of Rochester; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
