Margaret Ellen Ladd, 51, of Hillsborough, N.C., an educator and editor with expertise in computer-based instructional design, died Monday, Aug. 19, 1996, after a protracted battle against myelodysplasia.
A native of Montgomery County, Ms. Ladd graduated from Walter Johnson High School in 1962. After college and work in New Jersey as an educator, she returned to the Washington area in 1973 and worked as a consultant in education.
Ms. Ladd earned a master's degree in special education from American University in 1975 and worked as senior specialist in Parents Campaign for Handicapped Children and Youth, training advocates on behalf of disabled young people, until 1979.
She worked as senior training specialist in Austin, Texas, for Texas Instruments Inc. and in Silicon Valley, Calif., for Tandem Computers Inc., and Hewlett Packard Co. In 1990 she relocated to Durham, N.C., and worked as a consultant in writing and instructional design in the Research Triangle area.
Ms. Ladd was an artist and a founder of the Austin Writers League. During her final years, she worked for improved quality of life among people with chronic illnesses.
She is survived by her brother, Robert J. Ladd of Hillsborough; her mother, Ellen J. Bolton of Mountain View, Calif.; and her father and stepmother, Boyd Ladd and Dorothy Millon of Gaithersburg.
