VERLIE MAE - age 90, of Greensboro, N.C., passed away January 5, 1999, at Wesley Long Nursing Center. Mrs. Ladd was a native of Sycamore, Ala., and a graduate of Judson College in Alabama. In 1931, she moved to Tennessee to teach high school chemistry. Mrs. Ladd was the widow of Leonard E. Ladd, an attorney in Harriman, who died in 1968. She lived most of her adult life in Harriman, where she was a member of Trenton Street Baptist Church and was active in the Women's Club, Drama Club and Music Club. She was also active in First Baptist Church in Knoxville, and the Ossoli Club of Knoxville. She is survived by her loving family: daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Ladd Walrond, Greensboro, N.C.; son, Earl Ladd, Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Ladd is at Highland Memorial Funeral Home, 5315 Kingston Pike, where the family will receive friends Saturday at 10 a.m., with graveside to follow at 11 a.m., in Highland Memorial Cemetery with Rev. David Ward to officiate. Arrangements by Highland Memorial Funeral Home, 588-0567.
