My 4th cousin, Liz Townsley, is also a descendant of Rosanna Mills and Thomas Connally.  She recently discovered that Rosanna was the daughter of James Mills and Elizabeth Foster.  I will be updating this page soon to reflect information uncovered by Liz.

So far, my information pre-dating 1855 has been re-constructed primarily through census data and civil BMD certificates.  There are several indications that the family had ties to the city of Ayr prior to 1855.  Also, I have found unconfirmed statements that one or more of Rosanna and Thomas' children were born in Killinchy, County Down, Ireland. 

As is frequently seen in old records, the family surname  is found under numerous spellings in records, including:  Conelly, Conley, Connally, Connolly, Conely.  It appears that branches of the family in later generations may have adopted various versions of the name.  Similarly, Rosanna  appears in records as Rosan, Rosanna, Rosana, Rose Ann.

1. Thomas¹ CONNALLY married Rosanna Mills. He was born about 1813 in Ireland. He died on OCT 11, 1858 at No. 2 Coalpit Minnivay, Dalmellington, Ayrshire, Scotland.

Isabella's marriage certificate lists her father's occupation as 'Coal Drawer.'

Rosanna MILLS was born in Ireland, the daughter of James Mills, agricultural labourer, and Elizabeth Foster. She died in 1886.

2. Elisabeth² CONNOLLY (Thomas¹Connally) was born on APR 25, 1829 at Killinchy, Down, Ireland. She married William Donnelly on OCT 9, 1857 at Dalmellington, Ayrshire, Scotland.
