Roy Compton had no middle name or initial. He adopted the initial "C" while in the army during World War I. He served in Europe and was gassed and wounded. He received a purple heart medal (which is in the possession of his son, Roy C. Compton, Jr.) and was discharged with a 30% disability. There were three other Roy Comptons in his division, so they were "A", "B", and "C"

Compton. (His army serial number was 2217817 and attained the rank of Sergant). He owned a grocery store in Burkburnet, Texas and was a part-time FBI agent (known at the time as "government" agents). The store burned down and the family moved to Long Beach, California in 1926. Roy attended college prior to World War I at either University of Oklahoma or Oklahoma State. He also attended law school, but may not have graduated.

Phillip Compton's Bible contains the birth date as 1863, but it was changed to 1894 by person(s) unknown. There is a birth certificate issued at some time after the event and verified by his sister Effie.

After he married, he was known as Roy C. Compton, Sr.

Documentation available: Phillip Compton's Bible, Fata Compton's Bible, Army discharge and birth certificate. Copies of Fata Compton Bible records and original birth page from Phillip Compton Bible are in the possession of Roy C. Compton, Jr. He also has the original discharge and birth certificates.

Roy is buried at Fort Rosecrans Military Cemetery in Point Loma (San Diego), California
