 DIEPOLDER
Family Resource Center
Created 1 April 1999 WILLKOMMEN!!!
Last updated 23 January 2000

The goal of this website is to provide a central place from which to exchange information about the Diepolder surname and meet to ultimately discover the common roots of us all.
Without exception, the Diepolder families I have come across through internet research and correspondence have all come from Bavaria (Bayern), Germany.  There are records of Diepolders in Bavaria extend well back into the 16th and 17th centuries.  For that reason, I believe that all Diepolders are closely related and come from that region.
In the Netherlands, "polder" refers to the farmlands uncovered when flooded lands are drained.  Therefore, the root of the name Diepolder may have meant "the farmer" or "the farming people."  Further research is needed.

RESEARCHER: Avery Nelson <averyn@juno.com>
QUERY: My brother, Jim Anderson told me you had Diepolder ancestors as my husband does.  It seems they came from the same area of Germany, from what is now called Schwaben, Bavaria, Germany.  His ancestors came from Altusried and Kempten which are south of Ulm, fairly close to the Austrian border. The first ancestor we have is a Joseph Diepolder who was married to a Kenzentia (last name unknown).  They had six children:
   Name          Born
 Genovefa   1/21/1819
Marcel  6/15/1821    (married Maria Joseph Bummele)
 Heinrich  8/25/1822
 Franz  9/7/1824
 Fidel  4/22/1826  (married Theresia Dorn)
Weitere  Died at the age of 3.

Fidel is our ancestor who emigrated to the USA in 1854 settling in Chicago as a ship carpenter.  He married Theresia in1856 in Rochester, NY. They left Chicago because of a cholera outbreak, moving to Lafayette Township, Nicolette County, MN.  In 1885 they moved to New Ulm, MN.  If you want to know more about these Diepolders, I suggest you contact the Brown County Library in New Ulm.  Being mostly Germans in that area they have kept excellent records of their history and the people who settled there.
