Jones,
born in 1602 in Caversham, Oxfordshire, England, died on 9 March 1681 in
Manchester, Essex Co., Massachusetts; married Mary
North
between 1625 and 1630 in England. She died in 1650 in Hull, Plymouth
Colony, Massachusetts. There are varying accounts of Thomas's origins,
but one tradition says that he came from Caversham
in
Oxfordshire,
England and embarked from Southampton
in the Confidence
in 1638, setting sail on 24 April and initially settling in Plymouth.
Another tradition indicates that Thomas, born about 1598, came from England,
in the second voyage of the Mayflower
to Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1629, and settled in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
He removed to New London, Connecticut, in
1651, but went back to Gloucester the same year, where
he was made a freeman in 1653.
Thomas' will was made 2 December 1678, and he died at Hull
about 1680, and his estate was settled in Essex Co, Massachusetts, in March
1680-81. The will lists heirs
Sarah Chamberlain, sons Abraham, Thomas, Ephraim, John (incompetent),
step-mother
Elizabeth, and Hannah Gooding. As stated in his will, he was "by
trade Black Smith."
Mary, died 4 February 1682 as a widow, and was the daughter of Richard
North
of Greenwick, Kent Co., England, who died in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and
his wife Ursula.
The historian Savage reports that Richard was one of the first proprietors
of Salisbury, Massachusetts, in 1640,
where he was made a freeman on 2 June 1641. He removed to Salem,
Essex Co., where he made his will in 1649 in which he mentioned wife Ursula,
children Sarah (who married an Oldham),
Susanna (wife of George Martin of Salem), and Sarah wife of Thomas Jones
of Gloucester.
(3) Abraham
Jones,
born about 1630 in England, died on 25 January 1718 in Hull, Plymouth,
Massachusetts. He sailed 24 April 1638 from Southampton aboard Confidence
with his parents to Hingham, Plymouth Colony, Massachusetts. Around
1653, he married Sarah
Whitman,
born about 1632 in England, died on 11 June 1718 in Hull, Plymouth Colony,
Massachusetts.

(4) John Jones, born about 1669 in Hingham, Plymouth Colony, Massachusetts, died on 28 March 1753 in Mendon, Worcester Co., Massachusetts; married before 1694 in Hull, Plymouth, Massachusetts, to Sarah Lobdell born in 1668 in Hull, Plymouth Colony, Massachusetts, died on 3 March 1750 in Mendon, Worcester Co., Massachusetts.

(5) Deacon Nathaniel Jones, born on 31 March 1702 in Hull, Plymouth Colony, Massachusetts, died on 13 March 1784 in Milford, Worcester Co., Massachusetts; married Priscilla Corbett, born 14 August 1706 in Mendon, Worcester Co., Massachusetts, died 1746 in Bellingham, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts.
