Yonge Township, Leeds Co., Ontario
1803

No Junes were present in Yonge during the enumeration this year.  On 7 February 1805, Peter June purchased Lot 24 in the 5th concession of the township of Escott, consisting of 200 acres, from John Arkenbach, who had received it two years prior as a crown grant.  These records fix Peter's arrival in Leeds County between 1803 and 1805.

Peter's home population decreased by one male, and John June appears for the first time, suggesting John was Peter's son.  From later census records, John is known to have been born in 1799.  He was married by this time.
After this year, Levi June disappears from census schedules for Yonge township.  A Levi June reappears in 1839 and subsequent schedules.
A Levi June was enumerated in 1850 in Bridgewater, Washtenaw Co., Michigan, age 63, born in New York, with wife Nellie/Nollie, age 55, born in Vermont.  He was living next to relatives of Peter June Sr. of Yonge.

This is the first and only time we see the names of the June wives.  John's wife is known to be Esther McDonnel, sister of Randy McDonnel, Jr., both of whom received Crown grants of land due to their father's Loyalist service.
Peter June, Sr., and Peter H. June (Jr.) are both shown to have wives named Sarah.  Since the enumeration of children in each household is different, it is not likely to be an error.
When Peter June, Sr. died in 1830, he left a widow Anna, who named Peter H. June as her son in court records.  Peter H. June married Sarah Ann Keeler, born 1798 in nearby Elizabethtown (now Brockville).
What can account for the difference in Peter Sr.'s wife's first name? Could Peter Sr. be the same Peter June who married Sarah Fairchild on 19 April 1798 in New Fairfield Congregational Church, CT?  Birthdates of his children Peter & Hannah would suggest otherwise; however, for the three years leading up to Peter Sr.'s death, his son John F. June was enumerated as "Fairchild June."
Archibald Ladd's wife Hannah, was daughter of Peter June, Sr.

Note that John F. June and his wife appear to have lost a daughter this year.
Four June children who died of diptheria are buried in the woods on a farm in Junetown.  Their names were said to have been Sarah, Mercy, James, and Thomas.
A recent evaluation of the Junetown burial plot by the Ontario Genealogical Society has shown that the burials were probably made around 1825.
Was this missing daughter Sarah or Mercy June?

In this year Peter, Sr. appears to be absent a wife and a male child.  Could they have died?
Could the Sarah buried with the other children actually have been Peter Sr.'s missing wife -- named Sarah (Fairchild?) in the 1820 census -- and could James or Thomas have been their now missing son?

Peter Sr. now has a wife and another woman over the age of sixteen living with him.  Is this wife the Anna June who administrated Peter's estate two years later?  If so, why did she call Peter H. June her son instead of "step-son" in the court records?

Francis is probably a son of John F. June, considering the decline in John's adult male population this year.  Isaiah is named as a son in Peter H. June's will, proved 20 April 1865 at Watertown, Jefferson Co., New York.

In the 1850 census of Jefferson County, New York, just across the St. Lawrence River from Leeds Co., Ontario, Peter H. June was enumerated in the town of Alexandria and John F. June was enumerated in the town of Orleans.  Peter died in 1865 in Alexandria, where he left many descendants.  John does not appear in any subsequent census records for New York State.
John moved his family to Bridgewater, Washtenaw Co., Michigan, in the 1850s, and settled in a house next door to his brother Levi, but he was apparently dead by 1860.  In that year, Rosina June, age 45, farmer,  was enumerated as head of household on 20 June 1860.

There appear to have been two Levi Junes.  The first one appeared in Yonge with his wife in 1808 and the other, their son, was born by the 1809 census.
On 4 February 1833, one Levi June married Susanna Percivall of Augusta.
In 1840, Levi June, Jr. transferred land by will in Lot 8 Concession 3, to his wife Maria June for her natural life, to his son Samuel June after Maria dies, and to the heirs of Samuel June.
Maria(h) June was 15 years younger than Levi Sr., and only 13 years older than Samuel June, so she was probably Levi's second wife and not Samuel's mother.  Since a Percival was enumerated in Levi Jr.'s household in this 1861 census, perhaps Samuel's mother was Susanna Percival, who probably died by 1840.
There is a will filed in Yonge (Liber 5 page 308) dated 4 July 1870 for a Levi June, probably Junior.
