        (1)  Josiah Norman, also called "Josias," probably born circa 1740, married 23 December 1762 at Whitchurch Canonicorum, Dorset, England, Sarah Hodder, born about 1742 in Marshwood, Dorset, England. Their marriage record states: "Josiah Norman of this parish and Sarah Hodder of the parish of Marshwood were married in this church by banns this twenty third day of December in the year One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Two by me Wm. Richards (Minister) Josiah [signed] Sarah X. Witnesses John Newman X and Robert Halson." [Robert Halson witnessed several marriages at Whitchurch in this period which suggests he was connected with the church, rather than specifically with Josiah and Sarah; John Newman's connection has not been ascertained.)
        From the baptismal records of their four known children, it can be surmised that Josiah and Sarah were living in Whitchurch from the time of their marriage to potentially as late as 1769, by which time they had removed to Hawkchurch where they remained through at least 1773, whereafter they were in Wootton Fitzpaine by 1778.
        There are three burial records for men named Josiah Norman at Whitchurch Canonicorum, including on 24 March 1782 and 12 April 1798 (no age recorded for either), and one on 13 January 1822 for a man recorded as 84 years old; the later calculates to a birth year of about 1738 which fits the likely timeframe for the birth of Josiah Norman, who married Sarah Hodder, though further evidence is needed to confirm whether this record pertains to him.
        There are several burial records at Whitchurch Canonicorum for Sarah "Norman" but no ages are recorded for any of them.
