        (3)  Richard Olmstead, born about 1579 in Great Leighs, Essex Co., died 16 November 1641 in Fairstead, Essex Co., England, Frances Slaney, born 1581, died September 1630 in Fairstead, Essex Co., England.

        (4)  Richard Olmstead, baptized 20 February 1612 in Fairstead, Essex Co., England, died about 1685 in Norwalk, Connecticut; married first an unidentified woman, secondly Magdalen, widow of William Smith.  Richard immigrated to Boston on the ship Lyon in 1632, arriving on 16 September, and his name appears on the Founder's Monument of Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut, where he removed in the summer of 1636.  He removed to Norwalk in 1650/1651.  Richard and his first wife were parents of:
 
 
 

        (5)  Lt. John Olmstead, baptized 30 December 1649 in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut, inventory of estate on 22 December 1704/1705.  He married first on 11 November 1670 Mary Benedict, daughter of Thomas Benedict and Mary Bridgum of Southold, Long Island, New York.  He married second Elizabeth, born 10 June 1660, daughter of George Pardie.  In 1673, in "the Estates of Lands and Accommodations of ye towne of Norwalk," John Olmsted was credited with 50 pounds.  In 1699 he was chosen Selectman, and again in 1703. John and Mary were parents of:
 
 
 

        (6)  Daniel Olmstead, born 1682;  married on 9 May 1711 at Ridgefield, Connecticut Hannah Ketcham, born on 9 May 1683.
