        (1)  John Pickett, died 16 August 1667 “at sea returning from Barbadoes.”  He married in New London, Connecticut, 14 March 1651, Ruth Brewster, born at Jones River, Plymouth (now Duxbury), Massachusetts, 3 October 1631, died in New London, Connecticut, 30 April or 1 May 1677, of whom it was said “a woman of great worth, died comfortably and christianly.”
        Ruth married second in New London on 2 July 1668 (or 16 July) as his second wife, Charles Hill, born probably in England, died October 1684.
        The estate of John Pickett was appraised at 1140 pounds, indicating that he was a wealthy merchant.  Confirmation of a grant of 600 acres, made by Unquas (Uncas) to John Pickett, was obtained from the Colony by Ruth's second husband, Charles Hill in 1670.

Children of John Pickett and Ruth Brewster, all probably born New London, Connecticut, named in John’s will:

  1. Mary, born about 1652/3 (from age at death)
  2. Ruth, born about 1653/4 (from age at death)
  3. William, born 25 July 1656, died at sea
  4. John, born 25 July 1656;  died without issue.  The will of John Pickett dated 4  January 1690 and proved 28 January 1690/1 mentions “Cozen” John Fosdick,  Moses Noyes, Adam Pickett, Samuel Fosdick and Benjamin Shapley (by agent),  who divided John’s real property on 17 June 1691.
  5. Adam, born 15 November 1658
  6. Mercy, born 16 January 1660/1;  married first 1 November 1682 Samuel Fosdick, second John Arnold
 Children of Charles Hill and Ruth Brewster, born in New London, Connecticut:
  1. name unknown
  2. Jane, born 9 December 1669, living 8 January 1710/11, unmarried
  3. Charles, born 16 October 1671, about “fower of ye clock in ye morninge.”
  4. Ruth, born October, died soon
  5. son, born 27 April 1677, died same day;  “lived but half an hour.”
