(1) John
Pickett,
died 16 August 1667 “at sea returning from Barbadoes.” He married
in New London, Connecticut, 14 March 1651, Ruth
Brewster,
born at Jones River, Plymouth (now Duxbury), Massachusetts, 3 October 1631,
died in New London, Connecticut, 30 April or 1 May 1677, of whom it was
said “a woman of great worth, died comfortably and christianly.”
Ruth married second in New London on 2 July 1668 (or 16 July) as his second
wife, Charles Hill, born probably in England, died October 1684.
The estate of John Pickett was appraised at 1140 pounds, indicating that
he was a wealthy merchant. Confirmation of a grant of 600 acres,
made by Unquas (Uncas) to John Pickett, was obtained from the Colony by
Ruth's second husband, Charles Hill in 1670.
Children of John Pickett and Ruth Brewster, all probably born New London, Connecticut, named in John’s will:
