Paulus Martense VAN BENTHUYSEN

Ref: Calendar of Wills, 1626-1836, Genealogical Publishing
Company,1967 , Albany Co. Records,Wills, I., p.211.

Ref: The Early Records of Albany and Colony of Rensselaerwyck, 1916,
The University of the State of New York
"Paulus Martense Van Benthuysen is listed as a witness to a deed on pages 353 and 18. A footnote on page 18, where the name is signed as Paulis Marten, reads, 'This signature is the same as that of Paulus Martense Van Benthuysen, and as that of Paulus Martense Van Rynsburch.' Benthuysen, or Benthuizen, is a village about six miles southeast of Leiden. Rynsburch, or Rjnsburg, is the name of a village and of an ancient and wealthy abbey, three miles northwest of Leiden. This abbey had large landed possessions in various parts of the province of South Holland. The natural inference, therefore, is that Paulaus Martensen came from the vicinity of the abbey of Ben- thuysen, but from the land which belonged to the jurisdiction of the Rynsburch. Footnote: pg 32, Raemaecker is a contraction of Rademaecker meaning 'wheelwright'.

!ORD: Stamped Archive Record;IGI 27091;170870.
!NOTE: Paulus took the name of Van Benthuysen when he imigrated from Holland between 1646 and 1654. Van Benthuysen means"of the city of Benthuizen";We believe his name was OEM before he imigraged;not completely proven.

Cathalyntje Barentse VAN KLEECK

Name: Also listed as Barent Baltus of van de Lipstadt. Van Kleeck
surname appears at baptism of Peter, son of Baltus Barentse,
at Bargon, New Jersey, October 6, 1685. At burial of daughter,
Mayken, two years previous, in Bergen, father's name shown
as Baltus Barantse without Van Kleeck. (I don't know if
the Baltus Barentse referred to here is father of Catalyntje
or brother of Catalyntje. Son, Peter should be added to
one or the other!)
