This could explain Larkin being given to Joel's family at an early age. From Wilkes Co. Quarter Sessions court minutes, Feb. 4, 1807: Larkin Stamper bound to Joel Stamper; he was age six years fourteenth of last June.

Larkin was probably named for Larkin Clevelend, Revolutionary soldier, who was the brother of the famous Ben Cleveland of the Battle of King's Mountain.
