His death certificate says he was buried in Mooresville Cemetery but no gravestone is found there. A foot stone bearing the initials "R. W." was found on a farm about one mile west of Mooresville, on property formerly owned by former slave Jack Kidd. Another foot stone, with no engraving, was also found there, possibly that of Richard's wife Mary Jane Beal. Probably a former slave. His heirs, possibly his children, were identified in probate records as Edgar, Carrie, Ardelia, Flora, Richard, Alberta, Flora, Oliver and Larue. His widow Mary said Richard was born in Virginia and died aged "about 95 years."
