Jewell Brice WIEDMIER was born on 27 Dec 1945 in Braymer, Caldwell, Missouri. Jewell was seriously injured in 1975 when he slipped while working on a cornpicker that had plugged and stepped into the header. He was astraddle of the outside snout. The slip clutch on the auger stopped it from running but the feeder chains continued to run beating against his left leg. His brother Jerald had just arrived at the field and went back to see what was the matter. He got him out and after a brief stop at Dr. Wiper's home went on to the Chillicothe Hospital from there he was transferred to KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. After several hours of surjury he was taken to intensive care. His leg from the knee down on the outside was beaten quite badly and the small bone crushed. The removed the small leg bone and about 1/3 of the muscle and 1/2 the skin from the knee down. They also had to remove one toe. His thigh was broken and he had a deep gash in his back and another in the groin area that had severed the urethra. Because of the gash in his back they also did exploritory surgery to make sure there were no internal injuries. He had to go back into surgery every day for quite some time in order to do dressing changes.
