Joseph BURRIS was born on 9 Oct 1855 in Knoxville, Knox, Tennessee. He died on 24 Feb 1908 in Livingston County Infirmary, Chillicothe, Missouri. He was buried on 25 Feb 1908 in Mooresville Cemetery, Livingston, Missouri. He came to Missouri in 1856, settling in Platte County. At the age of 14, he came to Mooresville Twp. It was then that he applied for a license to marry a woman he said recently came to Mooresville from Kansas. County physician Dowell issued a written protest, referring to Burris being mentally incapable of entering into a marriage contract.

Joseph Burris boarded with the John T. Roberts family in Sampsel Twp. in 1900. The census taker wrote of Joseph: "This is a simple-minded person and does not know enough to tell anything."

When Mr. Burris died the citizens of Mooresville had just completed building a home for him which he occupied. His burial expenses were paid by Mooresville citizens.

"The sudden death of John Wesley, the three year old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Benney of Breckenridge, caused the death of the child's grandmother, Mrs. Susan Frith." -- Chillicothe Constitution, Feb. 7, 1923.

Susan's death certificate (Missouri #5733) identifies her father as Daniel Burt and her mother as Nancy Minor. Parents: Benjamin BURT and Nancy Jane MINOR.
