The cause of Isaac Chenowith's death dates back to the Civil War. During a skirmish at Spring Hill, Livingston Co., Missouri, he was wounded in the hand and thigh. In 1886 or 1887, the wounds in his hand became infected and never healed. The hand was amputated.
