The Crouse Family
Henry Crouse born in Poland in circa 1778 (Ok Poland did
not exist in 1778 but he always stated he was born in Poland
on the census records) was a blacksmith when he came to
the USA some time before the War of 1812 he married
Dorcas Ann Hall who was born in Maryland (DC became
DC around 1810) and they had their first children in DC
including Marietta Crouse in 1812. To celebrate her
birthday the British burned the town down. Henry after
spending some time in Captain King's Regiment of the DC
Milita remained in DC for several more years but left for
Pittsburgh , Pa. by 1830.
Marrietta met and married a Peter Burns from Ireland . The
Burns family spent some time in Ohio before returning to Pa.
many of Henry Crouse's children and grandchildren
managed, owned or worked in small foundries in Butler,
Indiana, Cambria , and Allegheny county.
