The Brislin and Gray Families
David Edward Gray born May 9, 1864 in Airdrie, Scotland son of Hugh Gray and Jane Keith
left for the U.S.A. in 1876. He arrived in Pittsburgh, Pa.some time before 1890 to work in the
Iron and Steel Industry as a puddler a trade his step Father James Quin had passed on to him
after the death of his father Hugh Gray in 1869. He met and married Mary Agnes Brislin
daughter of James Brislin and Hannah Cohan. James Brislin and his brothers born in Allegheny
City in the 1830s and 1840s worked in the steel industry all of their lives. James's father Owen
Brislin and mother Bridget McGovern had arrived in Allegheny City from Ireland in the 1830s.
James's wife Hannah Cohan had arrived from Co. Mayo, Ireland in 1860 after living through the
worst of the famine. David E. Gray and Mary A. Brislin's son David Edward Gray met and
married Margaret Ann White daughter of William Henry White after his return from WWI. David
E. and Margaret A. raised their family in Crafton, Pa. during the period from the end of WWI to
the start of WWII. This is how my White(s) became Gray before they came to me.
