Photo appears:The (Paxton) Record, Vol 131 No 35 Aug. 28, 1996. Buckley Community High School Class of 1941 composite photo. Was captain of basketball team. Great story about a baseball game in Thawville and the "heater" in Erv's car.

" As the proud owner of a car, Sprehe was reimbursed for gasoline costs at the rate of one-half or three-quarters of a cent per mile -- and thought he was well paid.
"One cold, rainy spring day, the Buckley diamond squad traveled to Thawville for a game. Team members would head for the Sprehe vehicle rather than the bench during their half innings at bat, and start the car to run the heater and warm up before returning to the field.
"One of the players also had some liquid anti-freeze in the form of a bottle of wine, which was passed around for nips to help chase the chills away.
"Late in the game, coach Earl Gehle approached the car and demanded, 'All right Sprehe, where's that heater you're sharing?'
"'Under the front seat, coach,' was the sheepish reply. To the relief of his players, Gehle reached under the seat, found the bottle and joined his players in a swig of anti-freeze."
