SECOND GENERATION
7. Louise Wilhelmina KRUMWIEDE was born on 25 Oct 1872.(1)
She died on 6 Apr 1898.(25) After a siege
of sickness of about ten days' duration Mrs. Edward Steinmann died last Wednesday
afternoon, twenty-five minutes past three o'clock. Her condition was so critical
the latter part of last week that it was supposed she could not last much longer.
Sunday afternoon, however, a change apparently for the better set in, and hopes for
her recovery were again entertained. Monday she relapsed again, and grew steadily
worse. She suffered intensely. It is seldom a human being is subjected to such excruciating
pain. It was painful to witness. She had lost entire control of her body, muscles
and nerves. Several men had to be at her side constantly to hold her in bed. Tuesday
evening she dropped into a comatose condition, and so sank into her last long sleep.
Mrs. Edward Steinmann, nee Krumwiede, was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
August Krumwiede, of this place. She, when yet a girl, regularly attended the school
of the writer and was one of his brightest, most diligent, dutiful and obedient scholars.
When she left school in the spring of 1887, she was confirmed in her faith and taken
into the Lutheran church as a member. On June 3d, 1892, she was united in marriage
to her now bereaved husband, Mr. Ed. Steinmann. This union was blessed with three
children. Of these one, Richard, has gone to eternity. Alwin and Reinhardt, aged
respectively six and two years, are left half orphans. Mrs. Steinmann, Louise
as she was popularly called, was born Oct. 25, 1872, ad was therefore in her 26 year.
Nearly all of her brothers and sister, besides her father and mother, were at her
bedside when she breathed her last. All that knew her loved her. She was naturally
an evenly tempered woman of a kind disposition. The husband lost a good wife and
the children a good mother. She is now resting and suffers no more pain. The
funeral takes place tomorrow from the Lutheran church. She was buried in
St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Buckley, Illinois. (2)
