Charles Hartke, 73, Crescent Farmer Dies; Rites Friday
Charles Hartke, 73, well-known Crescent City Farmer, died Tuesday evening in
Iroquois Hospital. Ill with a heart ailment for seven months, he had been admitted
to the hospital earlier in the day.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Peter's Lutheran Church with
the Rev. Robert Spenn officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery,
Buckley. The body is at the Segur Funeral Home, Watseka, where friends may call
after 1 p.m. Thursday. The body will be moved to the church Friday, where friends
may call from 1 p.m. until hour of services.
Mr. Hartke was born March 3, 1887, in Buckley, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hartke.
He spent his childhood there and attended parochial schools in the community.
He was married to Sophia Henrichs Dec. 14, 1910, in Thornton.
Mr. Hartke had lived on the same farm two miles north of Crescent City for the
past 41 years. He retired from active farming in 1958.
The deceased was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and had served on the
church board for many years. He had also served several years on the board of
the Washington rural school district.
Surviving are his wife; daughters, Miss Fern Hartke at home and Mrs. Norvin Wagner
of Onarga; brothers, Amiel, Harry and Theodore, all of Buckley, and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and five brothers. Charles
HARTKE and Sophia HENRICHS were married on 14 Dec 1910 in Thornton, Illinois.11 Charles
HARTKE and Sophia HENRICHS had the following children:

Fern Hartke
MARTINTON -- Fern F. Hartke, 88, of Martinton, died Tuesday (Oct. 28, 2003) at
Luther Place in Danforth.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Baier Funeral Home in Watseka
and from 9 a.m. Friday until the 10 a.m. services at St. Peter's Lutheran Church
in Crescent City, where she was a member. Rev. Harold Grafe will officiate.
Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Buckley.
Memorials may be made to Prairieview Lutheran Home-Faith Place or to St. Peter's
Lutheran Church.
Ms. Hartke had worked at TRW and T&D Metal Products, both in Watseka.
She was born May 18, 1915, in Buckley Township,(sic) the daughter of Charles
and Sophia Henrichs Hartke.
Surviving are one sister, Edna Wagner of Crescent City; special friend, Betty
Hitchings of Martinton; two nephews, Ronald Wagner and Dennis Wagner, both of
Onarga; two nieces, Ruth Newman and Betty Reetz, both of Cissna Park; 13 great-nieces
and great-nephews; and six great-great-nieces.
One nephew and one great-great-niece are deceased.
She was a Cubs fan.
