6. Edward A
(Ed) HARTKE was born on 11 Mar 1872 in Buckley, Iroquois County, Illinois.11 (The Hartke Family Records give
his year of birth as 1873 and say that he was born in Cook County.)
He was
in the news in 1895.21
27 Sept 1895 -- Born -- To Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hartke, Sunday, Sept. 22, a boy. Ed
is busy shaking hands now. No, thanks, we hardly ever smoke, but really, if you
insist.... (I am not certain that this is the correct person for this note as
I do not know what child he would have had born in 1895.)
27 Dec 1895 -- Mr. Ed. Hartke, wife and child went to Streator, Ill., to spend
the holidays. He died about 12 Jul 1954 in Marion, Kansas.26 Notations transcribed at the Iroquois County Genealogical
Society say he died 15 July, but his obituary seems to indicate that he was buried
on 15 July.

Buckley relatives have returned from Marion, Kansas, where they attended funeral
services for Ed Hartke on Thursday, July 15.
The deceased was born Mar. 11, 1872, at Buckley, the son of Henry Hartke and
Frederica Hilgendorf Hartke. He was the oldest of 14 children. He attended Buckley
schools and was married to Chettie Warrick at Buckley. She survives. They farmed
five and one-half miles northwest of Buckley for several years before their removal
to Kansas about 45 years ago.
He is also survived by three sons, George, Loren and Ellis and several grandchildren;
four brothers, Emiel, Harry and Theodore, all of Buckley, and Charles of Crescent
City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, five sisters and an infant
son who died in 1907 while they were residing at Buckley. Burial was in a cemetery
at Marion, Kansas. He was buried on 15 Jul 1954 in Marion, Kansas.11 Edward A (Ed) HARTKE and D. L. "Chettie" WARRICK were
married in Buckley, Iroquois County, Illinois.11
