* The Hartke family was so large in the Furstenau region that it was decided to split the family name. The name chosen by some was NIEHAUS. Those who participated in the change of name used the syllable "modo" to indicate that it was a split-family name. There was no animosity to this action; it was simply a pragmatic move. I do not know where the name NIEHAUS comes from that they made that choice. It may come to light if research is done on the ancestors of these people.
