The following is taken out of the "History of Boone County" by the Historical Society 1981.

C. B. Hulen was born in Bath County, Kentucky, November 16, 1833. He is the son of John C. and Sallie (Bruton) Hulen. Mr. Hulen's parents were natives of Kentucky, his father of Madison, his mother of Montgomery County. He left Kentucky when ten years of age. They emigrated to Boone County, where the subject of this sketch has resided ever since. He was married, August 29, 1860 to Mary F. daughter of J. V. and Mary Kemper. They have one child named Vard. Mr. Hulen has been engaged for the last ten years in buying and selling mules and horses, making Sturgeon his shipping point. He took no part in the war, remained in Illinois until it was over. In 1865, he moved to a farm three miles south of Sturgeon where he has lived ever since. He and his wife are both members of the Christian church. Mr. Hulen is a warm-hearted whole-souled man, universally liked by all who know him.

Mr. Hulen died in St. Louis, of apoplexy, September 28, 1882.

She married (1) ROBERT VIVIAN POWELL October 22, 1901. She married (2) WESLEY WRIGHT January 31, 1915, son of George Wright and Minerva Sims.

April 24, 1963 Bertie Wright celebrated her 84th birthday anniversary. She was living at 227 N. 9th st. a 40 year resident of Columbia. She attended the First Christian Church with her daughter, Mrs. Herman Pigg, 1110 Range Line. Mrs. Daisy Ellis, Dallas, Texas, niece, visited here Wednesday and Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Ulry, Perry, were visitors with her Aunt Thursday. Also celebrating the occasion with Mrs. Wright were Mrs. Pigg and a granddaughter, Miss Nancy Pigg; and Mrs. Alice Jeffries, for the home (See Peggy's files for article with picture).

Pallbearers were George Edwin Wright, J. B. Thomas, D. Ray Powell, William D. Powell, Bradley Powell and Stewart Crane. Bertie was 90 years old at the time of her death. She died at 10 p.m. Saturday at the Boone County Nursing Home where she had been a patient for two weeks.
