Centralia, Missouri Fireside Guard 8 April 1892 page 5 column 5 OBITUARY

Note; Son of Edward Sherrod & Elizabeth [Simms] Tucker who proceed him in death.

William W. Tucker died at his home, three miles South of Hallsville, April 2nd 1892, at the advanced age of 70 years, 7 months, 3 days. He had been an invalid seven years, having been stricken with a paralytic stroke the last of February 1887, during the period he never walked a step, but he never longed for death, always expressing a desire to live longer, yet he

was prepared at any time for summons, having united with the Christian Church 54 years age, and he lived a Christian life up to the day of his death. He took a severe attack of the grip in early winter, from which he never recovered, the same causing his death. Although his children expected his death, it was a stunning blow when the sad news flashed across the wire. "Pap is dead: died this morning" We may expect to hear of loved ones crossing the River of Death, yet we can't fully realize the significance of the expectancy, until the worse has come. Eld. Hampton Roberts made an appropriate talk which was highly appreciated by all, after which the remains of W. W. Tucker were interred in Red Top cemetery, by the side of

his wife, Martha B. Tucker, who departed this life 21 years ago, aged 52 years. Both husband and wife united with the Christian Church, Sept. 18, 1839, during the revival at old Friendship Church, Bro. T. M. Allen conducting the meeting.

There were sixteen children born to the couple, all of whom are living, save one, Mrs. Hannah Fountain having crossed the dark, valley of death four years ago. Of sixteen children, seven boys and nine girls-there is but one single, that being Clay. Eleven of whom have united with the Christian Church but one sister has joined the Baptist Church. There are yet five

brothers outside of the church. How nice it would be to have their names enrolled in the Book of Live--God's Album!

There are 81 grand-children and 25 great-grand-children living. Deceased leaves several sisters and one brother to mourn his loss, besides a host of friends and relatives. W. W. Tucker was a man that could boast of having more relatives than

any on man in Boone county, and most of them living in the county. He was of a jovial disposition, and enjoyed live to the fullest extent. He knew no sorrow; was unacquainted with grief. His life was a shining light for us; he took everything just as it came; there was no grumbling; no waste of words, but he was ever contented with his vocation in life. Thus has

another pioneer passed away, for the deceased grew up with Boone county, it being a wilderness at the time of his birth. Every one knows that W. W. Tucker, Sr., was a self-made man; all his earthly possessions were accumulated by his energy and perseverance. At one time he was one of the most popular business men in Boone county. He has been a Justice of the

Peace, and he has a gladdened many hearts by pronouncing the solemn vows that made them one.

All the children, save one, Mrs. Lee Anthony, of Columbia,  (prevented by illness,) paid the last tribute of respect to a devoted father, most of his grandchildren followed the remains of grandpa to his final resting place, and a large circle of friends mingled their tears with the sorrowful ones. The children are: Benj. F. Tucker, Sturgeon, Thos. W. Tucker,

Centralia, James E., Henry Clay, William W., and Robert S. Tucker, Hallsville: Mesdames Lee Anthony, Columbia, Cyrus McLane, Brown's Station, John A. Johnson, Centralia, S. D. Turner, J. R. Pollard, Lizzie Turner, J. Weldon, Marion Hulen, Hallsville,

May the inspiration of his pure and devoted live, cheer us in our earthly pilgrimage, till we meet him in the :Land beyond.:

MRS. A. RODEMYRE.

 J. Rueben Pollard, son of J. P. and Sallie C. Pollard was born in Boone Co., Feb 12, 1861, died at his home near Hallsville, May 6, 1912. Between these two dates lies the earthly life of one of the county's best citizens. Although he had been in poor health for some time no one expected that the end was so near. On Saturday he came to town to vote. On his return home he began working the garden but soon became ill and a physician was summoned. On Sunday Dr. Moss came up from Columbia and pronounced the trouble peritonitis. Monday Drs. Moss and Nifond decided that he had but one

chance for life, an operation. The sick man was anxious to try this and after making all preparations for the worst, called his family and bade them an affectionate farewell. The disease was beyond all earthly control and he died upon the operation table. The news of his death brought sorrow to everyone in the community, for the name of Ruby Pollard is a synonym for all that goes to make up a true gentleman and Christian. In early life he was converted and joined the church at Red Top where he remained faithful until death. Deceased was married to Miss Ella Tucker, daughter of the late Warren Tucker, Feb. 22, 1882. To them were born four children, one little girl dying in 1886. Three children, Mrs. Nelson Hall, Glen T., assistant cashier in the Hallsville Bank, J. Searcy, deputy recorder, the wife, aged parents, three sisters -Mesdames J.C. Hall of Rocheport, S. J. Smith, at present in California, Kate Noe, of Columbia are left as the immediate family. The community joins in sympathy with them in their sorrow. Funeral and burial services were held at Red Top Tuesday at 4 p.m. by Elder W. S. St. Clair of Columbia. A large crowd was present to pay their last tribute of respect to an honored citizen.
