The Allen Family
Elihu Allen was born in 1762 in Litchfield, Connecticut and he died 8 June in Wayne Township, Ashtabula County, Ohio. Elihu married Tyrephena Yeomans, who was born circa 1770 in Massachusetts. The locations of their births are supported by census reports. Elihu applied for a pension in Ashtabula County, Ohio on April 2, 1822 while a resident of Wayne Township there. On this application, it is stated that he was born in 1762 in Connecticut and that he served one year in the Revolutionary War. His wife, Tryphena, also applied for a pension and stated that her husband died on 8 June 1835, leaving two sons, Milo and Harvey; and one daughter, Elizabeth. The pension record is #W2 511; Bounty Land Warren No 16, 279-16-55/ Continental Massachusetts. Elihu Allen is buried in the Roberts Cemetery in Wayne Township, Ashtabula County, Ohio.
At this time, the only data I have located on Harvey Allen is his date of death…. Harvey Allen 20 February 1889 in Trumbull County, Ohio. Nothing has been located on the daughter, Elizabeth.
Milo Allen was born in 1814 in Ohio; his father according to the 1850 Federal Census, was born in Connecticut, and his mother in Massachusetts. Milo Allen married the former Clarissa Merchant, who was born in 1811 in Connecticut. Milo and Clarissa Allen were early settlers in Ohio, keeping a farm in Southington Township, Ohio until their retirement years. Very little is known of them at this time, however it is known that they had three children all born in Ohio: Lot Allen who was born about 1844; Eliza Allen who was born in 1846, and Milo Allen, Jr. who was born in 1849.
Lot Allen married the former Cordelia Wildman, who was born 23 May 1857, and who died 6 July 1891. Cordelia is buried in the Wildman plot in the East Farmington Cemetery (photo). By 1912, when his sister, Eliza Thompson died, Lot Allen is known to be in Lincoln, Nebraska. NFK
Milo Allen was born about 1849… he was still living in Farmington Township in 1912 when his mother died, but NFK
Elizabeth Allen was born in 1846 in Southington, Trumbull County, Ohio, and she spent most of her early life there. She graduated from the Western Reserve Academy in West Farmington Township in 1868, and she then married James Orson Thompson. James Orson Thompson hailed from Rock Creek, Ashtabula County, Ohio and was the son of Norman Thompson and Harriet Nelson. He was first married to the former Laura Latimer, having two male children. Upon Laura's death sometime before 1876, James Thompson removed to Trumbull County, where he and Eliza Allen were married May 2, 1876. Elizabeth and James Thompson had one known child between them, Milo David Thompson, who was born 29 June 1877 in Southington Township.
