The Lewis Genealogy


John Lewis, born circa 1850 in England and he died 1900.  He married Mary Weaver, and they had five children, all raised at their country house in Market Drayton, Shropshire, England.   According to family lore, the family was well off;  they were the proprietors of several business concerns, including a candle factory, several stores and other mercantile interests.  As it so often goes, the family fortunes took a downturn.  There is precious little known about this family.  The five children of John and Mary Weaver Lewis:

Harry Lewis, who was born in Market Drayton, England and left home when he was about fourteen and went to South Africa to make his fortune.  He married there and had a family, but there is nothing further known about him.

George Lewis,
born in Market Drayton and who also left home in his early teens for South Africa.  It is had
a family, but no specifics.

Fred Lewis,
was born in Market Drayton.  His father bought him a military commission and Fred later
married and went to live in Barbados.  That is all that is known.

Charles Lewis, was born in Market Drayton, Shropshire, England.  He married Bird  Dixon, his first cousin
by marriage.  Charles and Bird only had one child, Clifford, who tragically died  at the age of 10 months.

Frank Lewis…. nothing known

Daisy Edith Lewis, born 29 October 1882 in Market Drayton, Shropshire, England.  She married John
Carleton Wilcox, son of John Wilcox and Betsy Allen,  in Rutland, Vermont  on 22 April 1913 and they had
five children together.  Daisy also had two sons by previous relationships,
Percy Lewis and Frederick
Hammond.  Daisy Lewis died 10 June 1933 in Farrel, Mercer County, PA.   Daisy emigrated from England
was very young.  She came to northern New York on her own, and had a brief marriage to a gentleman
named Will Hammond.   Daisy and John Wilcox had five children: 

Frances Edith Wilcox, born 2 January 1914 in Farrel, Mercer County, PA… she died as an infant 12
October 1914 and is buried in Oakland Cemetery, in the same plot as her mother, Daisy.  Frances was twin to Frank Edward Wilcox, my Grandfather.

Frank Edward Wilcox, born 2 January 1914 in Farrel, Mercer County, PA.  Frank married Eva Smith, daughter of Charles F Smith and Emma Campbell, on 23 May 1941 in Warren, Ohio and they had one son.   Frank died 6 August 1973 in Warren and he is buried in Oakwood Cemetery.

Carlton Allen Wilcox
was born 16 February 1915 in Farell, Mercer County, PA and he died 22 July 1995.  He married the former Anna Sagenich and they had two children.

Clifford John Wilcox was born 1 October 1917 in Farell, Mercer County, PA and he died 9 September 1990 in Farell.  He married the former Mary E Hollibaugh 19 April 1938 and they had three children.

Donald Wilcox, born 04 February 1920 in Farrell, Mercer County, Pennsylvania; died 10 August 1986 in West Middlesex, Mercer County, Pennsylvania.  He married Rita Riggs 01 January 1942 and they had two children.

Dorothy May Wilcox, born 5 May 1923 in  Farrel, Mercer County, Pennsylvania.  She married (1) Robert Smith.  She married (2) Charles Woge.
