Daniel Maybery was born 27 March 1826 in Bristol, Gloucestershire, England and christened on 16 Apr 1826 to Thomas and Margaret Mayberry at the parish of Philip and Jacob, Bristol, Gloucestershire. About 1850 Daniel immigrated to South Africa where he apparently met his wife, Sarah Coyle. They were married either on 1 Nov 1853 or 11 Jan 1853 at King Williams Town, South Africa. Daniel and Sarah Maybery had eight children born between 1855 and 1872. Daniel Maybery operated a sawmill which failed, a general store which also failed.As one sketch of the family put it, "The financial collapse led to domestic crisis" and the couple separated. Daniel returned to Cardiff in Wales where he died on 18 Oct 1882.
