Notes for James Wilburn HIPP

Enlisted in Co K "Pegues Defenders," 22nd Mississippi Infantry for three
years by Capt. Lester at Decatur, Alabama on March 12, 1862. Absent on
sick leave starting April 12, 1862. On the report for September and
October 1862 is the statement, "Taken sick soon after the Battle of
Shiloh. Has not returned." In November and December he is reported,
"Sent to hospital from Tippa 1 December 82. Went home. Now at home
without leave." The report for September and October 1863 carries this
statement, "He has been absent sick since the 1st of December 1862." In
November 1863 he returns to his company. He served until December 20,
1864 when he is reported AWOL.
