OTHER INFORMATION
Allen County was formed from Indian territory in 1831. The county takes its name from Ethan Allen, famed leader of the "Green Mountain Boys" of the American Revolution.
Lima, the county seat, received its name from Lima Peru. In 1885 the discovery of oil by Benjamin Faurot brought booming prosperity to the city. Even after the oil had tapered off, Lima maintained a position in the oil industry with refineries and important pipelines.
Principle industries in Allen County include; machinery, transportation equiptment, fabricated metals, food and petroleum refining.
Probate Court has birth and death records 1867 to 1908, marriage records from 1831, County Museum has naturalization records from 1851 to 1929.
