OTHER INFORMATION

Hancock County was named in honor of John Hancock, president of the first Continental Congress and first signer of the Declaration of Independence. The county is level with a rich sand-mixed soil and a thick underlayer of limestone.

The city of Findlay, the present county seat, was established in 1829. By 1890 the city had the largest natural gas wells in the world, but eventually the supply gave out. Today Findlay is the headquarters of an oil company which maintains the largest fleets of private planes in the country.

Major industries in Hancock County include; rubber, machinery, food, locomotives, drain tile, film processing, plastics, stone and concrete products, washers and dryers, petroleum. Agricultural products include; wheat, soybeans, corn and livestock.

FHL has some birth, marriage, death, cemetery, civil court, land, probate, and tax records.
