Mr. Garver was born Nov. 12, 1938, in Butler County to the late John William I and Vera Clark Garver. He had lived in Qulin and Edwardsville for most of his life and was a member of the Qulin American Legion Post 494. He had served in the Missouri National Guard and was a farmer, truck driver and farm implement salesman. He loved hunting and fishing. Survivors include two daughters, Thea Lynn Bailey and husband Samuel of Edwardsville and Suzanna Marshall and husband Joseph of Gillespie, Ill.; two sons, Richard Clark Garver II of Poplar Bluff and Jacob "Jake" Garver of Edwardsville; one sister, Betty Vancil of Crystal River, Fla.; one brother, John William "Bill" Garver of Williamsville; three grandchildren, Elaina Rose Marshall, Adam Clark Marshall and Reese Abigail Marshall; and a special friend, Dixie Garver. He was preceded in death by one sister, Patsy Jean Garver. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Qulin. Mrs. Fowlkes was born Oct. 5, 1916, in Harviell to the late Everett and Rosa Barker Pierce. She was affiliated with the Baptist faith and had formerly attended the Osborn General Baptist Church. She was a homemaker who enjoyed doll collecting, needlework and reading. On Jan. 19, 1935, she married Robert Richard Fowlkes. He preceded her in death March 20, 1965. Survivors include three daughters, Bettie Gallamore and Charlotte Kay LeGrand, both of Poplar Bluff and Donna Robertson of Florissant; two sisters, Clara Vancil of Qulin and Muriel Butler of DeSoto; and 10 grandchildren, Glenn Robertson, Christie Knuckles and Amy Byrne, all of Poplar Bluff, Lonnie Robertson of Patterson, Lisa Loury of Doniphan, Tammy Robertson, Laura Robertson and Tracey Pigg, all of Florissant, Keith Robertson of Brentwood and Kirk Robertson of O'Fallon; and 11 great- grandchildren. Mr. Barnett was born July 31, 1924, in Broseley. He was a member of the Brown Chapel General Baptist Church in Broseley and a member of the American Legion Post in Qulin. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy, and was a retired truck driver and farmer. On March 1, 1947, he married Midge Love in Poplar Bluff. She survives. Miller, 77, of Hayti, formerly of Qulin, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Mr. Miller was born June 8, 1926, in Atkins, Ark. He was a U. S. Army veteran, having served during WW II, and a member of the American Legion Post in Qulin. He worked as a farm hand and liked playing pool. Survivors include two sons, Danny Miller of Malden and James A. Miller of Fairfield, Iowa; one daughter, Kathleen Glandt of Broseley; his companion, Flossie Connell; eight brothers; one sister; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Tompkins was born July 15, 1929, in Qulin. She was a homemaker. On July 26, 1946, she married Joe Tompkins in St. Louis. He preceded her in death June 14, 1996. Survivors include her children, David Tompkins of Broseley, Michael J. Tompkins of Qulin, and Jackie Stevens of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Dorlus Davis of Dupo, Ill., and Blanche Davis of Poplar Bluff; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Davis was born May 17, 1931, in Risco. He lived in Qulin most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a farmer. Mrs. Hargrove, the daughter of the late Clyde and Effie (Noon) Hagar, was born July 8, 1912, in Butler County. A homemaker, she was a member of the Osborn General Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. On Aug. 24, 1929, she married Ralph Hargrove in Poplar Bluff. He survives. Other survivors include five children, Bonnie Ryan and husband, Jim, of Poplar Bluff, Teddy Hargrove and wife, Peggy Dell, of Qulin, Peggy Black and husband, Rip, of Arnold, Tommy Hargrove of Barnhart, and Brenda Sandlin and husband, Roy, of Pevely; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. 'Buddy" Melton, 75, of Qulin, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at the St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis. Mr. Melton was born May 5, 1925, in Broseley and was affiliated with the Baptist faith. He was a retired farmer, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post 494 in Qulin and the Veterans Honor Guard of Poplar Bluff. He was married to Flossie Goodman. She preceded him in death April 7, 1978. Survivors include two sons, Todd Kelly of Qulin and Jeff Kelly of Bloomington, Ill.; two brothers, Ernest Melton of St. Louis and Jimmy Melton of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Millie Hagner and Alpha Blake, both of St. Louis; and four grandchildren. Mr. Johnson was born March 28, 1939, in Qulin. He worked at General Motors in St. Louis until retirement in 1974. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Survivors include a special friend, Connie Yount of Wappapello; one daughter, LaDonna Ann Jackson of Benton; two sons, Michael Johnson of St. Louis and Dennis Wayne Johnson of Tipton; one sister, Mildred Wiedner of Wappapello; three brothers, Glenn Johnson of Williamsville, Elvin "Bud" Johnson of Qulin and Melvin Johnson of Wappapello;14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hampton was born on March 15, 1944, in Poplar Bluff. She was a housewife and was affiliated with the Baptist church. On Nov. 7, 1962, she married J. C. Hampton at Piggott, Ark. He preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 2001. He was born Nov. 7, 1944 at Qulin and had lived at Qulin all of his life. Mr. Hicks worked at Gates Rubber Company and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He loved stock car racing. On Feb. 8, 1969 he married Mary Alice Trout Sentell. She survives. He was a member of Oglesville General Baptist Church and was a U. S. Army veteran and retired farmer. He married Ethel Tiff who survives. Mrs. Mitchell was born Sept. 4, 1918. She lived in Qulin for several years and had lived in Butler County for most of her life. She was a homemaker and had worked with her husband in the sawmill. She had also worked as a cook at Motor Harbor restaurant. She enjoyed gardening, canning, camping and fishing. She was married to Leo Wisdom. He preceded her in death in September 1974. She later married Jess Mitchell in September 1980. He also preceded her in death. Survivors include one daughter, Betty Lance of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Ora Dugas of Harviell and Maxine Griffin of Poplar Bluff; two grandchildren, Paula Youngblood of Memphis, Tenn., and Bonnie Lance of Qulin; three great-grandchildren, Chari Presson of Viola, Ark., and Jason Lance and Heath Lance, both of Broseley; and three great-great- grandchildren, Rachel Presson, Ryan Presson and Josh Janeway. Burial will be in Brown Chapel Cemetery in Broseley. ------------------------------------------------------------- Mozell Dovie Burress Mozell Dovie Burress was born in Qulin in 1913, she was the youngest daughter of Lee Ota JACOBS Burress, and Benjamin Burress. Benjamin Burress was a log train engineer. Benjamin died in 1948 at abt age 64. He is buried in Broseley Lee Ota died in Wynnburg, TN at the age of 54. Together they had four daughters , Loxie, Opal, Flossie, and Mozell, along with one son Benjamin Syolvester Burress. Mozell died in 1991, she is buried in Gridley, California. She was born Sept, 16, 1912, in Lake City Arkansas. Pauline was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved the outdoors, gardening, flowers, and fishing. Pauline was a 50 year member of the Oglesville Baptist chruch, having joined the church on August 19, 1951, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Newburg MO. Chapter 243, since 1990. The funeral will be at 2 p.j. Saturday in Landess Funeral Home in Campbell. The Rev. Jeff Hefner will officiate. With burial in the Qulin Cemetery. Mr. Ledbetter was a retired carpenter. A lifetime Butler Countian. He was born August 10, 1907. He was of the Baptist faith and was a veteran of World War II. He was married to Ruby Wynn on March 3, 1926, in Poplar Bluff, and she survives. Other surviving include one sister Phoebe Sedrick of Tucson Ariz. and one brother William Patrick (Pat) Ledbetter of Qulin and several nieces and nephews. Visitation has been set for 6 p.m. today at the Landess Funeral home Campbell ------------------------------------------------ Mrs. Mary Katherine Ledbetter Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Katherine Ledbetter, 90 old resident of Rt. 2 Qulin, who died at 10:00 a.m. Monday in Lucy Lee Hospital, in Poplar Bluff, Mo. will be at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow in the Landess Chapel in Campbell. The Rev, Bob Johnson will officiate and burial will be in the Gravel Hill Cemetery at St. Francois, Ark. Born March 26, 1876 in Golconda, Ill. she was married to Robert Ledbetter at Golconda, on Oct. 21, 1896. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1962. Among her survivors are two sons Ernest and William Ledbetter of Qulin; two daughters Mrs. Belle Melton of Qulin and Phoebe Sedrick of Tucson Ariz. One sister Leona Downing of National City, Calif. She had 23 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren. Visitations were scheduled at the funeral chapel beginning at 2:00 p.m. today. ----------------------------------------------------------- Opal (HALL) Ledbetter McClearn Photo St.Louis--Opal" Ledbetter" Mc Clearn, 78, of St.Louis, formerly of Qulin, died Thursday at St.Anthony's Hospital in St. Louis. Mrs. McClearn was a homemaker and retired cook. She was of the Pentecostal faith. She was born Mar. 23rd 1912 and later remarried to a Mr. Mike McClearn who preceded her in death. Survivors include 3 daughters: Junental{June}DeGeare, of High Ridge, MO., Patricia {Patsy} Walton of Eureka, MO. and Mary Agnes Hudson of Newburg, MO. and one son William {Sonny} Ledbetter of St. Louis,MO. Other survivors are 3 brothers: Hubert and George Hall, of Qulin, and Tom Hall of Bonner Springs, KS. three sisters: Myra Luepke of St.Louis, Hazel Scott of Qulin and Katherine Rudder of Marshall TX. 16 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. The daughter of William Thomas and Anna Lee HENDRIX Fischer, she was born Jan 2. 1915 in Brighton AR. she was married to William Patrick Ledbetter who survives. Mrs. Ledbetter died Thrusday at the Doctors hospital in Poplar Bluff at the age of 59. Survivors include her husband William Ledbetter of Qulin, two daughters Dorothy Ann Kenhans and Gwendolyn Weston both of Qulin. ; Six sons: W.C. Visitation began today at the Landess Funeral home in Campbell. ----------------------------------------- Bertha Mitchell QULIN -- Bertha Wisdom Mitchell, 84, of Poplar Bluff died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Cedargate Nursing Home in Poplar Bluff, where she had been a resident since October. Mrs. Mitchell was born Sept. 4, 1918. She lived in Qulin for several years and had lived in Butler County for most of her life. She was a homemaker and had worked with her husband in the sawmill. She had also worked as a cook at Motor Harbor restaurant. She enjoyed gardening, canning, camping and fishing. She was married to Leo Wisdom. He preceded her in death in September 1974. She later married Jess Mitchell in September 1980. He also preceded her in death. Survivors include one daughter, Betty Lance of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Ora Dugas of Harviell and Maxine Griffin of Poplar Bluff; two grandchildren, Paula Youngblood of Memphis, Tenn., and Bonnie Lance of Qulin; three great-grandchildren, Chari Presson of Viola, Ark., and Jason Lance and Heath Lance, both of Broseley; and three great-great- grandchildren, Rachel Presson, Ryan Presson and Josh Janeway. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Qulin. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jim Sanders officiating. Vinson, 84, of Benton, Ky., formerly of Poplar Bluff, died Saturday, March 22, 2003, at the Marshall County Hospital in Benton. Mrs. Vinson was born Nov. 20, 1918, in Qulin. She was a homemaker and a member of the Christian Fellowship Church in Benton. She enjoyed fishing and cooking for her family. On May 4, 1934, she married Everett H. Vinson. He preceded her in death Feb. 24, 1968. Survivors include three sons, James W. Vinson and Everett L. Vinson, both of Poplar Bluff, and Daniel E. Vinson of Springfield; one daughter, Patty McWilliams of Benton; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Woodrow McIver of Crawfordsville, Ind. Visitation will begin at 7 tonight at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. J. T. Parish officiating. Burial will be in Qulin Cemetery. ------------------------------ Glen C. Hicks QULIN -- Glen C. Hicks, 58, of Qulin died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003 at Three Rivers Healthcare-North Campus. He was born Nov. 7, 1944 at Qulin and had lived at Qulin all of his life. Mr. Hicks worked at Gates Rubber Company and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He loved stock car racing. On Feb. 8, 1969 he married Mary Alice Trout Sentell. She survives. Other survivors include children Terril Sentell of Qulin and Scott Sentell and wife Ronda of Qulin; seven sisters, Kathleen Psalmonds of Bradenton, Fla., Maggie Barr, Edith Shamblin and Juanita Carroll, all of Poplar Bluff, Linda Hicks of St. Louis, Barbara Rose of Campbell, and Mildred Shrum of Jackson; and grandchildren, Eric, Whitney and Jordan Sentell, Zachary and Chelsea Sentell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Onie Hicks; a sister, Delphia Davis; a brother, Lindel Hicks and a daughter-in-law Lisa Sentell.
