Bob Sanders officiating. Mr. Hollowell died on Saturday morning at Lucy Lee Hospital after being ill several months. He was born June 10, 1904, near Paragould. On Nov. 22, 1924, he was married to Era Murel Johnson near Piggott. She survives. Mr. Hollowell worked for Boeving Brothers for 60 years and managed cotton gins at Fagus, Broseley and Qulin. Other family members surviving include two sons, Walter Hollowell Jr. of Poplar Bluff and Arth Hollowell of Qulin; one daughter, Marglyn Garner of Poplar Bluff; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Visitation begins at 4 p.m. today at the White-Sanders Funeral Home in Qulin. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Danny Bell Tree of Life Fund at Lucy Lee Hospital. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Era Hollowell QULIN – Era Murel Hollowell, 83, of Qulin died Sunday, Dec. 12, 1993, at Westwood Hills Health Care Center. Mrs. Hollowell was born on Feb. 2, 1910, in Barlow, Ky. She had been a resident of the Qulin area most of her life. She was a member of the Qulin Missionary Baptist Church. On Nov. 22, 1924, she married Walter Hollowell, who died Sept. 8, 1984. Survivors include two sons, Walter Hollowell Jr. of Poplar Bluff and Arth Hollowell of Qulin; one daughter, Marglyn Garner of Poplar Bluff; one brother, John D. Johnson of Caseyville, Ill; six grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. A graveside service was to have been at 11 a.m. today at Qulin Cemetery with the Rev. Dean Trivitt officiating. White-Sanders Funeral Home in Qulin was in charge of arrangements. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charles Tubbs St. Louis – Charles Tubbs, 84, of St. Louis, formerly of Gibson, died Tuesday, April 23, 1996, at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis. Mr. Tubbs was born March 26, 1912, in Gibson. He was a retired railroad switchman. Survivors include two daughters, Betty Moore and Barbara Serra, both of St. Louis; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Landess Funeral Home in Campbell followed by the funeral at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Dunklin County Memorial Gardens in Kennett. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CARRIE BLACKSHARE FUNERAL HELD AT OGLESVILLE CHURCH Mrs. Carrie Blackshare died Jan. 1, 1963 at age 77. She was born April 20, 1886. She was married to George S. Rider who died in 1918. One son Jewel P. Rider, died Nov. 26, 1962. She was remarried to James T. Blackshare Oct. 20, 1920. He died Aug. 11, 1961. She leaves two step-children, Doin blackshare of Decatur, Ill., and Vinnie E. Picker of St. Ann, Mo., a daughter-in-law, Genevieve Rider of Granite City, Ill., seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at Oglesville, Baptist church, and burial was in Good Hope cemetery, Pollard, Ark. The Rev. Anthony George and the Rev. O. D. Peters officiated. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maude Scott QULIN – Mrs. Maude Bell Scott, 84, a Qulin housewife, died Sunday at the Lucy Lee Hospital after lengthy illness. Mrs. Scott was born April 29, 1891, in Poplar Bluff. On Nov. 5, 1910, she married Andrew Scott. Mr. Scott died on Dec. 3, 1957. She was a member of the Baptist faith. Survivors include five children. Mrs. Alma Guard of Broseley, Robert Scott of San Jose, Calif., B. Joe Scott of LaMirda, Calif., and Betty Jackson and Mrs. Lillian McGhee of Poplar Bluff; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Lloyd Dowd of St. Louis, Otis Dowd of Poplar Bluff and Monroe Dowd of Broseley. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Roscoe Pridy at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Cotrell Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the City Cemetery. Visitation begins at 7 p.m. today. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Harold Johnson, Route 2, Broseley, died Sunday morning in a seven-vehicle pile- up on snow-swept I-57 near Cairo. State police said the accident began when a driver lost control of a van while passing a truck and hit a bridge abutment. The truck jackknifed and the two vehicles blocked the southbound lanes of the interstate, officers said. After two cars and another semi became involved, Johnson’s truck collided with the wreckage, police said. When Johnson got out of his cab,, he was struck and killed by another semi approaching the pileup, police reported. His body was removed to White’s Funeral Home at Fisk. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CALVIN HAM SR. of Qulin Missouri Calvin L. Ham Sr. 78 died Sunday, May 20.2007 at his residence. Mr Ham was born Aug 2,1928, in Holcomb and was a lifetime resident of Qulin. He attended Bible Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff until his health failed. He was a retired mechanic and enjoyed playing music. On Nov.26,1949 he married Doris Benton in Piggott, Ark. She survives. Other Survivors include two sons, Calvin Ham Jr. and Darrell Ham both of Qulin: two brothers, Herman Ham of Qulin and Donnie Ham of Poplar Bluff : Three sisters, Shelba Rees of Fruitland, Gloria Parks of Qulin and Shirley Dycus of Poplar Bluff: nine grandchildren: 21 great grandchildren: and one great- grandchild. Mr. Jordan was born Nov. 22, 1925, in Oglesville. He lived in the St. Louis area for 22 years before moving back to Oglesville in 1980. He was a member of Oglesville General Baptist Church and had retired in 1980 from Transcom Truck line in St. Louis. On April 2, 1947, he married Lorine Cole. She survives. Other survivors include five daughters, Geraldine Ernest and Martha Craft, both of Qulin, Pauline Chesebro of Broseley, Janet Sue Orasz of Madison, Wis., and Cindy Griffith, whom they raised; two sons, Jimmie Don Jordan of Philomath, Ore., and Jimmie D. Mr. Pyles was born Jan. 7, 1926, in Campbell. He was a member of the Oglesville General Baptist Church and was retired roadgrader operator, having worked for Butler County for 26 and one-half years. On Jan. 8, 1958, he married Claudia Huggins in Oglesville. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Marvin Leon Pyles Jr. of Jackson and Steve Andrew Pyles of Poplar Bluff; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Mr. Austin was born Aug. 16, 1971, in Poplar Bluff. He had lived most of his life around Qulin and was of the Baptist faith. He was a watermelon harvester for Don Srum CVS Farms and enjoyed hunting, outdoors and racing. Survivors include one daughter, Meighan Austin of Qulin and her mother. Tracie Austin; five siblings, Tracy Rea of Neosho, Melissa Underberg and Scott Austin, both of Paducah, Ky.; his grandparents, Opal Austin and Calvin and Doris Ham, all of Qulin; 10 nieces and nephews, JoAnna McCrory, Trenton McCrory, Jer-Lynn McElroy, Marina Rea, Donna Rea, Harlea Brook, Zachary Underberg, Austin Underberg, Allison Baggett and Kendell Austin; and his girlfriend, Justine Richman and her children, Alyssa Davidson, Rebecca Richman and Andrea Richman. Medical Center in Poplar Bluff. Johnson was born May 14, 1932, in Fisk. He was a graduate of Broseley High school. He Joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, serving on the USS Los Angeles. He was a retired farmer and master electrician. He enjoyed old gospel music, the Internet and spending time with his family. He married Doris Ann Barker on Jan 3, 1952, in Poplar Bluff. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Jon Randolph “Randy” Hill of Qulin and Alan Webster Hill and wife, Jackie, of Naylor, his brother-in-law, Don Barker and wife, Glenda, and his mother-in-law, Inez Barker of Qulin and many nieces and nephews. She worked at Poplar Bluff Medical Partners for the past three years and had previously worked at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center and Beverly Health and Rehabilitation. On Dec. 11, 1961, she married Delmar "REd" Nored. He preceded her in death on April 13, 1989. On Aug. 18 1972, he married Gwendolyn Ledbetter. She survives. He attended Osborn General Baptist Church, was a member of the Lions Club and selective service board member for many years. Mr. Johnson was a driver for Emerson Transportation for five years and he formerly owned and operated Qulin Discount Furniture for 22 years. He previously managed Collinsville Furniture Store in Collinsville, Ill., was a buyer for Gateway Promotions in St. Louis and an assistant manager for St. Louis Theaters. On July 24, 1961, he married Linda Diamond. She survives. Mr. Nation was born Nov. 10, 1914, in Butler county, to the late Earl and Lucy (Roark) Nation. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in West Plains and a retired farmer. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandson. In 1950, he married Esther Marie Thomas. She preceded him in death on Nov. 18, 1986, on Oct 24, 1987, he married Wanda (Baker) Reeves. She survives. She was a charter member of the Osborn General Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was first married to Ben Franklin Brent. He preceded her in death on March 23, 1962. She later married Clinton Strickland on Feb. 22, 1967, in Qulin. He preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 1986. Pridy, 66, of Poplar bluff, died Saturday, March 11, 2006 at the St. Louis University Hospital. Mr. Pridy, the son of the late Roscoe and June Pridy, was born Feb. 10, 1940, in Qulin. He was a graduate of Poplar Bluff High School and Murray State University. Mr. Pridy taught industrial arts for several years and for the past 40 years his career included automobile sales as well as being co-owner of Ideal Plastics and Ideal Medical Products. He was a member of the New LIfe Christian Church- United in Poplar Bluff. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and was always willing to help those in need. On Sept, 1, 1960, he married Harolene Baker in Poplar Bluff. She survives.
