HESS Wm, farmer & stock raiser, is the s/o David and Ann Wheeler Hess, natives of Ohio, who emigrated to this state at an early day & settled in Pearl Twp. in 1836 where he still resides, but Mrs. Hess died in 1870. The subject of this sketch was born in Greene County, IL in 1830. He was married 18 Oct 1855 to Margaret Wagner, who died leaving 1 child: J. D. His present wife is Nancy Smith and they have six children: Sarah; L. C.; Wm. H.; Eva; Ada; Ruthy. He owns nearly 800 acres of land.

HESS, J. D., a prominent attorney of Pike Co. residing in Pittsfield, was born in Milton in 1856, s/o William & Catherine Wagner Hess. His paternal grandfather was David Hess, who came to Brown Co. OH in 1828 and settled in Greene County IL. In 1836, he came to Pike Co. locating in Pearl Twp. His death occurred in 1861...........the article continues with teh life of J. D.
