5 August 1763 letter of Christopher Truby, Ensign
Den 5ten August 1763 bin ich
mit 23 Mann auf Henrich Krautz, von da nach Lorentz Nolf, von da nach Christian Jänky,
von da nach Balzer Meyer, von da nach Henry Silvius, von da nach Gottfried Grünewald,von
da nach Johannes Weyand, von da nach Conrad Merkam, von da nach Peter Huber, da sind wir
über Nacht geblieben. (All in Towamensing) Den 6ten, sind wir wieder zurück nach Henry
Christman, von der durch den Busch wieder zurück nach Haus. Wir haben nicht Neues
gehöret als dass Lieutenant Dodge 4 Indianen hätte gefangen bekommen, das wird Ihren
wohl bekant sein und dass viel Leute gesinnt sind über den blauen Berg hinüber zu
fliesen.
On the 5th of August 1763, I
went with 23 men to Henrich Krautz, from there to Lorentz Nolf, from there to Christian
Jänky, from there to Baltzer Meyer, from there to Henry Silvius, from there to Gottfried
Grünewald, from there to Johannes Weyand, from there to Conrad Merkam, and from there to
Peter Huber, where we spent the night. (All in Towamensing). On the 6th, we returned by
way of Henry Christman, from there through the thicket back again to home. We heard
nothing new, except that Lieutenant Dodge captured 4 Indians. You probably know that
already, and also that many people have the intention to flee over the Blue Mountains.
