This is from a copy of a
letter sent by Beulah Silvis of Dickson, Tennessee, who is a descendant of the family of
Isaac Silvius #26 on Mary Cole's chart. She quotes from the German Bible of Jacob #143
(his son) who married Lydia Reeger.
She writes, "ISAAC SILVEIS was born 1778 and died 1855. Married
twice, had a family but we only know of five children. Four died in infancy. There is only
one boy we are sure of and that is the son named Jacob." {Of course through other
records, including his will, we have a more complete list of those who lived. JMB}
Continuing her writing from the German Bible:.."The son's name was
Jacob Silvis, I understand Isaac's second wife was a full blooded Indian. His two wives
and four children are buried in a private lot on the farm, which is located along the road
between Route 66 and Harrison City, near the Battlefield of Bushy Run. A few years ago
some of his Great-Grandchildren went together and erected a new stone, put a fence around
and planted four pine trees. He (Isaac) was a farmer, blacksmith and gunsmith. We do not
know of any other brothers or sisters, but understand there were." {He was the only
child of William #2 from Bucks County who came to Westmoreland Co PA. jmb}
"Jacob Silvis born August 23, 1801, died August, 1892. He was
buried in Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Delmont, PA. He married Lydia Reeger. She died in
1877. They had seven children, two girls and five boys." {She then lists the names
and birth dates which are in Mary's chart in more complete and coherent form. jmb} Beulah
Silvis continues, "This record was taken from the great grandfather's old German
Bible. On his tombstone the name is spelled SILVEIS, but in the Bible it is spelled
SYLVIS, but understand it was written by Harriet, Uncle Joseph's wife."
"He was a gunsmith and blacksmith. He made the first Tumble Shaft
Threshing Machine. He pulled teeth for the neighbors and was a veterinarian. He is buried
at Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Delmont PA."
On the next page she has the baptisms of Jacob's (#143) children at
Denmark Manor which are on the family chart prepared by Mary Cole of the SilviusWave. The
cemetery was renamed Eastview Union Cemetery in case anyone should try to look it up.
