Contributed.
Death hath robbed us of our father,
Whom we loved and cherished dear;
It was father you, dear father---
Can we help but shed a tead?
We miss him, oh we miss him
When we see his vacant chair,
And how sad the room without him
Oh, we miss him everywhere.
Had God asked us "Shall I take him,"
We had said "Oh, spare the day."
Yes, with streaming tears, entreat Him,
"Lord we love him let him stay."
Look up stricken mourners, weep not for your dead.
His memory lingareth yet.
Like the fragrance which flows at evening shed
It softens the pangs of regret.
As sadly we laid him in the cold giant tomb,
And the heart throbs with fail___ of grief,
We turn from the pall and the sepulcher a gloom
To the teachings of Christ for relief."

Obituary of Ann WAINRIGHT VARNER, wife of Jacob VARNER.From The Buffalo Journal, Vol. XXX, #52, Thursday, December 28, 1916.
OBITUARY
Mrs. Anna Varner, one of the early pioneers and a highly respected resident of this place died at her home two miles north from Buffalo Dec. 20, 1916. She had been in ill health since breaking her leg a year ago, a great sufferer from insomnia and nervousness, and at time was very much depressed and melancholy.
Mrs. Varner, whose maiden name was Wainright, was born at Megesport, Pa., April 16, 1844. She was united in marriage to Jacob Varner May 5, 1864. They migrated to Minnesota and by their thrift and industry became prosperous members of the community.
Her husband passed away 24 years ago and the widow has since resided in the old home. To them six children were born, one of which died in infancy. Mr. Will. Varner living in Idaho, Edward Varner in Montana and Mrs. Frank Ward, Mrs. Frank Cottrell and Mrs. Chas. Johnson of Buffalo, Minn. survive her to mourn her loss.
Mrs. Varner was a devoted member of the Baptist church, a woman of strong religious convictions. She was an unselfish loving mother, a good neighbor, and a loyal friend. Her kind, generous nature endeared her to all who knew her and her death was a shock to the entire community. She possessed the attribute of love and charity for her neighbors which is the essence of a Christian lifealways the first to repond to the call of a neighbor in distress by her offer of assistance and sympathy.
Funeral services were held from the family residence. Rev. Sellie officiating. A large concourse of neighbors and friends who had contributed flora offerings followed the remains to Lakeside cemetery where interment was made.
(This was transcribed from the original obituary by Claudia Menzel without corrections in spelling or punctuation.)
Editors Notes: Important corrections: Paragraph 2---Megesport is most likely McKeesport, PA. Paragraph 5---Lakeside cemetery should be Lakeview Cemetery in Buffalo, MN. Additional information from family tradition is that Annie VARNER died of a suicide. She supposedly hung herself from one of the doors in her home.
