Buffalo High School Football Team circa 1933 I do not know the exact year. The family story was that my father was a Junior at BHS that year. My father, Kenneth, is sixth from the left in the front row. I would guess that there are other Varners in the pic too. If anyone in the group wants a bigger pic (more resolution for identification), I'll be glad to provide that by personal e-mail. ~~Mark Varner~~ |

Here's a pic of Ken Varner and a team of horses taken circa 1935 on Bob Varner's farm that was on Lake Pulaski near Buffalo. The lake can be seen in the background. Besides selling farm equipment, feed and wood, Bob bought and sold horses. If horses were too wild for a farm to handle, Bob would buy them. They would be put to work on the farm and then resold after they were settled down. Ken told the story that after a day of working the horses, he would take the team down to Lake Pulaski for a swim. The horses could drink and cool off. It was very popular with the horses, and my father used horses for pulling farm equipment until the late 1940's, when my brother's allergies to horses was diagnosed. |

1936 Varner Reunion The person on the left is John "Bob" Varner, my grandfather, and I do not know the lady on the right. The story I have is that the oldest Varner man and woman each got a cake at the reunion. The cakes have "Varner Reunion 1936" written on them. Anyone recognize the lady on the right? Anyone have a copy of the newspaper article ~~Mark Varner~~

Ken Varner, Dave Varner and Nora (Varner) from the basement of Dave's house circa 1950. Ken is a grandson of Henry Varner and Dave is a grandson of Lafayette Varner. Nora Lee is the youngest daughter of Dave and Catherine (Pansy) Varner. Please note that the fish are taller than Nora, which is why she was
awakened and posed in the picture. If you examine closer, you'll find that the fish are
propped on the top of Ken's and Dave's boots to make the fish appear a few inches taller.
Ken and Dave were close friends, and 'fish tales' were an important part ~~Mark Varner~~ |

1954 Here's a photo of my parents, my siblings and myself from 1954. From L toR, the photo is sister Nila (Varner), father Ken, baby Mark, mother Eleanor (Swenson) Varner and brother John David Varner. It was taken at my baptism, when I had chicken-pox, as my cheeks in the picture demonstrate. :-( It was taken at our home on the farm near Montrose. ~~Mark Varner~~
