Unknown Mabel Wirsing believed this to be
Emily (Perron) Rehaume,
mother of Emily/Amelia (Rehaume) Varner. It's possible.
But, Emily was born in 1813 and this picture,
if I remember right from Mabel, is a tintype. Tintypes were first taken in 1856
through 1900. This woman looks too young to be at least 40 if not older. |

Cook shack in the grain fields at Graceville,
MN. Here the food was prepared to feed the harvestors who worked in the grain
fields. Annie (Mabel's mother) was the cook; cook helper: Virginia Harrison.

Mabel said her grandmother Dorman bought her
the shoes she is wearing in this picture--and she still has them. Mabel walked when
she was nine months old.

Annie (Varner) Dorman
1875-1957
Daughter of Solomon
Mabel Wirsing's mother
She was a natural nurse and helped a doctor
in delivering babies, along with her other
many skills. Mabel said her mother was brilliant
and was an avid reader, even though she didn't
go to school beyond the sixth grade.

Mabel went to school to become a teacher and
taught for one year before she got married. Mabel taught
Sunday School and Catechism classes for many, many years
and took care of the elderly in their homes. |
