I was interested by note[1] in the william womack the immigrant genealogy, where it says also reputed to come from Wragby Lincolnshire. Wragby is not in limncolnshire but in yorkshire. Just outside of Wakefield. My husband's earliest definite ancestor ame from there, and is recorded in the Church register as getting married in 1619. The names of WW the immigrant's children are much more in line with the Yorkshire family names than the norfolk ones and most parents used family Christian names repeately. Do you know where this information came from? I think I ought to find time to go back to the Wakefield archives and search through other branch lines at that time. When I was researching womack history I used to stick to the direct line I was interestedin with out deviating to cousins etc.Jan womack

For years I thought there was just a few Womacks in this world. My Dad and his side of the family didn't talk( or know) much about the Womack Family. His Dad died when when my Dad was very young. I was born in Edinburgh, Scotland 3/9/1949. My father, Joseph Harold Womack was born in Sheffield 17/7/1915. Womack Water and Womack Staithe, near Ludham in the county of Norfolk suggest that there may have been an influential landowner but I have not ben able to find out any more about it. A version Womock appears in an English book of family names, this is the earliest record in England of the name, dating from around 1678, the person concerned was a Canon Womock of the parish of Great Bellingham, , wich I think is in the county of Suffolk. I am interested in where the American Womacks originated from. Was a Womack among the Pilgrim Fathers or is there an eastern Europe connection? I will add more family details when I get more time.
