Generation One


1. Richard¹ Johns was born on 29 Mar 1650 at Bristol, England. He married Elizabeth Kensey, daughter of Hugh Kensey and Margaret, on 7 Jun 1676; 2nd husband. He died on 16 Dec 1717 at the Cliffs, Calvert Co., MD, at age 67.
He immigrated in 1670 to Calvert Co., MD. He and Elizabeth Kensey resided at the Cliffs Calvert Co., MD. He was a Quaker preacher.
Elizabeth Kensey married Thomas Sparrow; 1st husband. She died on 1 Feb 1715/16.
Known children of Richard¹ Johns and Elizabeth Kensey were as follows:

•     2.  i.   Abraham² Johns, born 24 Jul 1677; married Margaret Hutchins.


•     3.  ii.   Aquilla Johns, born 5 Feb 1684/85; married Mary Hosier.


•       iii.   Priscilla Johns was born on 21 Mar 1681/82. She married Robert Roberts, son of Hugh Roberts and Jane Owen, on 3 Dec 1703; int. She died on 21 Apr 1725 at age 43.


•     4.  iv.   Margaret Johns, born 11 Oct 1683; married Gerard Hopkins.


•       v.   Aquilla Johns was born on 30 Sep 1679. He was buried on 11 May 1682.


•       vi.   Richard Johns was born on 4 Apr 1687. He married Priscilla Hutchins, daughter of Francis Hutchins and Elizabeth Burrage, in 1707; 1st husband. He died on 16 Aug 1719 at age 32.


•       vii.   Kensey Johns was born on 12 Jul 1689. He married Elizabeth Chew, daughter of Benjamin Chew and Elizabeth Benson, in Nov 1710. He married Elizabeth Chew, daughter of Benjamin Chew and Elizabeth Benson, on 22 Dec 1710. He died on 2 Apr 1729 at age 39.


•       viii.   Isaac Johns was born on 10 May 1692. He married Ann Galloway, daughter of Samuel Galloway and Anne Webb, on 25 Dec 1712; 1st wife. He married Eliza Harris on 22 Jan 1730/31; 2nd wife. He died on 17 Feb 1733/34 at age 41.


•       ix.   Elizabeth Johns was born on 26 Mar 1694. She married Henry Troth, son of William Troth and Isabel, on 14 Aug 1711; 1st husband. She married John Stevens in Aug 1732; 2nd husband. She died on 19 Dec 1772 at age 78. She was buried at Arch Street Meeting House, Philadelphia, PA.

Generation Two


2. Abraham² Johns (Richard¹) was born on 24 Jul 1677. He married Margaret Hutchins, daughter of Francis Hutchins and Elizabeth Burrage, before 1707; 1st husband. He died on 9 Dec 1707 at age 30.
Margaret Hutchins married Nehemiah Birckhead on 24 Aug 1712; 2nd husband. She married John England on 10 May 1727; 3rd husband. She died on 10 Jun 1733.
Known children of Abraham² Johns and Margaret Hutchins were:

•     5.  i.   Richard³ Johns, married Margaret Crabb.

3. Aquilla² Johns (Richard¹) was born on 5 Feb 1684/85. He married Mary Hosier, daughter of Henry Hosier and Rebecca Kedday, on 16 Jan 1704 at Cecil Meeting, MD; 1st husband. He died on 16 Jan 1709/10 at age 24.
He resided at Calvert Co., MD.
Mary Hosier was born 20 9mo 1687. She married Richard Hall, son of Elisha Hall and Sarah Hooper, on 4 Sep 1712; 2nd husband. She died on 14 May 1762. She left a will on 28 Jan 1762 at Annapolis, Anne Arundel Co., MD; proved 4 Jun 1762.
Known children of Aquilla² Johns and Mary Hosier were:

•       i.   Richard³ Johns.

4. Margaret² Johns (Richard¹) was born on 11 Oct 1683. She married Gerard Hopkins, son of Gerard Hopkins and Thomsin, in Jan 1700/1 at The Cliffs, Calvert Co., MD. She died in Mar 1749/50 at age 66.
Gerard Hopkins was born on 8 Oct 1683. He died in Jan 1743/44 at Anne Arundel Co., MD, at age 60. He resided at Anne Arundel Co., MD. He left a will on 1 Jan 1741 at Maryland; proved 1743.

5. Richard³ Johns (Abraham², Richard¹) married Margaret Crabb, daughter of Thomas Crabb.

  She and Nicholas Greenbury Ridgely had 1 child.

6. Gerard³ Hopkins (Margaret² Johns, Richard¹) married Mary Hall.


Generation Four


7. Col. Thomas⁴ Johns (Richard³, Abraham², Richard¹) married Sarah Hollyday, daughter of Dr. Leonard Hollyday and ___ Contee, on 10 Oct 1771.
He left a will on 6 Oct 1793 at Montgomery Co., MD; proved 25 Jul 1794.
Known children of Col. Thomas⁴ Johns and Sarah Hollyday were as follows:

•       i.   Richard⁵ Johns.


•       ii.   Margaret Crabb Johns was born circa 1774. She married Rev. Thomas John Chew, son of Col. Samuel Chew and Priscilla Claggett; 1st husband, no issue. She married Col. Washington Bowie, son of Allen Bowie Jr. and Ruth Cramphin, in 1799; 2nd husband. She died on 22 Jul 1840. She was buried at 'Oatland', Montgomery Co., MD.


•     9.  iii.   Sarah Johns, born 1 Oct 1777; married David Peter; married John Leonard.


•       iv.   Leonard Hollyday Johns was born on 19 May 1779.

8. Rachel⁴ Hopkins (Gerard³, Margaret² Johns, Richard¹) married Evan Thomas.


Generation Five


9. Sarah⁵ Johns (Thomas⁴, Richard³, Abraham², Richard¹) was born on 1 Oct 1777. She married David Peter, son of Robert Peter and Elizabeth Scott, on 17 Sep 1799; 1st husband. She married John Leonard; 2nd husband. She died on 7 Oct 1823 at age 46.
She and David Peter resided at Georgetown, DC.
David Peter was born on 27 Jul 1778. He died on 1 Dec 1812 at age 34. He resided at Georgetown, DC. He left a will on 30 Nov 1812 at Montgomery Co., MD; proved 8 Dec 1812.
